This is somewhat related to the tremolo discussion but is more general. In reading that thread, the question occurred to me: Do you try to "do it all" (fast picking, slow picking, chordal work) using the same grip on the pick or do you change your grip depending on what you are playing? I tend to do the latter - but I have been wondering of late whether that is a habit I should seek to break.
Opinions (not about my habit per se, but about changing pick grips in general). Pardon if this is a silly question - I have been a fingerstyle player for most of my life and have only started focusing on using a pick or hybrid style pick+fingers in the last year or so.
thanks

I would say find one grip that allows you do everything you are looking to do. Changing grips would be pretty inefficient for me.

Same grip. My wrist, arms, fingers change position based on what I am doing. Not greatly, but there are changes that occur but I do not think about as my mind makes the adjustments. Pick stays the same though.

that's kind of what I thought - thanks. As I said, I've played finger style most of the time, and I am trying not develop bad habits as I transition back to using a pick.

Like Jake, I don't really think about it, but, unlike Jake, I'm pretty sure that I move the pick around quite a lot. I guess I'm just one for developing bad habits!

Don't use no stinkin picks I play Clawhammer Banjo not Bluegrass...
Oh wrong forum...
When I started to learn "proper" flat picking for Bluegrass Guitar this year I was told I had horrible pick technique.
I held it between thumb and index but resting against the side of the middle.
Kind of like holding a pencil not like if your here handing a business card to someone.
