Are we still celebrating 50 years of surf music (1961-2011)? Or since it's now 2013 should we update the banner?
If it's time to update, are they any suggestions?

I would suggest to change the banner to "52 years of surf music"

Mr. Moto & Let's Go Trippin' were both released in 1961.
That banner is a link to a very important news story. It wasn't meant to be taken down in 2012. It's just a reminder that surf music is now 50+ years old, and links to a cool article by John Blair.

ah I see... Blair says "a celebration of the first recordings", otherwise what would we do with the people who played and called it surf music prior to 1/1/61
