Permalink What are you guys getting for "paying gigs"???

It varies wildly. The current guarantee (if you can get one) in town is about $300 for a one hour set here in Halifax.
If it's a door gig, you never know. We've seen them range from $15.00 to $2800.
There was a club we used to play a couple of years ago that did a $1200 guarantee for 1.5 hour set. Those were the days.
We like to walk away with at least $100 each, but like I said, it varies.

Out of town, we always try for a guarantee or accommodations, but that can be easier said than done.

probably a beer,
or did the band get drink tickets?

Honestly, out of all the gigs I played - I mostly got paid in alcohol. (Which has never impressed my 'significant other') Even a couple of years ago when I played in the "house band" for "Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" (which was a fun gig) - I got a thank you and a nice bottle for my efforts. BTW Is my nose still red?

it usually depends on the gig, we play a lot of charity events and kids events (got to get them into surf rock early) but if we do private parties we charge $100 for every hour we play and most cases we play about a 3 hour set so we end up walking out with a $300 pay out for us. if it is a Club as is the case most times, we run off of tips and Merchandise sales, we usually rack in around $50 - $400 depending on the night of the week, and of course the clientele. Austin doesn't pay much as far as the club scene goes, but we have made a killing when we hit Corpus Christi and South Texas!

Shouldn't the title read "What are you guys paying for "getting gigs"???"? Laughing

The TomorrowMen are lucky to get drink tickets and $50 (total). That's because we try to play clubs around town and it's all about supply and demand.

I know that feeling. My old country band would get $250-$300 to play from 9 PM to 1 AM at biker bars & country bars. If we were on a bill with other bands, we got drink tickets & MAYBE some gas money.

I usually try to get at least $100 per person ($400 total) for a 3hr job for our band, 3rd Wave. We're really an all instrumental surf/rock/pop group, and cover a lot of surf standards, plus pop songs from the Beatles, one-hit-wonders, etc. The occasional bar gig doesn't pay nearly that much.

At our usual haunt on the Easy Side of Nashville, free shepherd's or pot pie, 1 free beer and tips.
Did I mention how good those shepherd's pies are? LOL

We mainly get a split of the door. Depending on night and location it can between 20 to 100

Vaguely recall the band getting $70 for playing 2 hours in San Pedro & giving my cut to a homeless guy who hit me up when I was loading my gear back into the car.

There was a legendary venue in Anaheim that we played three times & never saw a dime. Two drink tickets per band member was it. We headlined one of those gigs.

There was a club in Santa Ana that paid us $250 to play for 3 or 4 hours & would not give us drink tickets, so my crafty drummer smuggled in some MGDs in his drum bag in order to outfox the foxy club owner. I recall taking a swig of one of said MGDs (it was warm) & setting it on my amp. It immediately foamed over & out & all over my amp, which shorted out an hour or two later. Repairs for said amp: $187. Money earned at gig: $62.50.

Said crafty drummer booked us at another club in Santa Ana & promptly added two other bands we knew to the bill. One of said bands suggested another band, so they were added. Then the venue decided we weren't a big enough name, so they added a bigger name. 5 bands & we amazingly started only 7 minutes late. However, the lead singer of the bigger name came up & yelled at us after we'd played 10 tunes. He asked us how many tunes we had left. We had 4; I said 2. He yelled at me to make it one. We played the one tune & then I proceeded to hurl much nasty invective at him & his band as the song ended. Said band & most of the crowd yelled many suggestions & rumors about my mom as we hurriedly packed up our shit & got the fuck out of Dodge. If we ever got paid that night, I never saw any of it.

This thread is causing mixed feelings within me.

One side is glad to see I am not alone in the wage zone (from $0.00 to the ever so rare $100.00 Cheers
per man per gig for 3 sets of music).

The other side of me is in pain due to the same wage zone.

Good thing I love the usic.
