Most of the Surf Guitar players know the reverb unit is the real deal, you can have a nice reverb pedal, but tubes + springs rules. This fact can also be stated when it comes to Echo, Binson Echorec & Echoplex are the classic units along with the FullTone TTE, this units tend to be for carefull players and may become a problem in a gig real situation . But we also know Ivan Pongracic can achieve a unique and awesome sound with Line 6 Echo Park on the other hand I have seen videos where Dave Wronski uses his Echoplex. EL Capistran from STYMON seems to be a popular & nice pedal too.
Said that, has anyone tried the Catalinbread Echorec?

And if you Ivan & Dave are reading this lines, it would be nice to read your thoughts about "practical use vs. unit sound". With all those IC out there, does a real unit worths the pain $ money? I say yes, but I´m a romantic guy when it comes to electro-mechanical devices.

Our bass player bought one for his guitar rig and I think it's a great delay!
It's only 300ms in the first program and maxes out around 1000ms using a combination of the heads via the program knob.
If you're simply after a tape delay modeler, I honestly think you can find better for less.
But if you're a Gilmour fan and after the Echorec sound, then you definitely won't be disappointed.

Thanks, Emilien. I can't say anything about this pedal, as I've never tried it before, but I know that some people on the Shadow Music forum had some very nice things to say about it (Hank Marvin used a Binson Echorec from around '63-'64 until the end of the '60s, I think). I'd love to give this one a shot, though it's not really in the budget for a while. But it looks like a great pedal, and it sounds fantastic in the video!
(BTW, to answer your question, I am nowhere near Dave W. when it comes to tonal alchemy, so I personally have no time for tape delays. I've used them in the past, an Echoplex and a Klemt Echolette (which I still own) but they're mostly a pain in the ass, IMO. I've been happily using my Korg Toneworks 301dl Dynamic Echo pedal for the past 15 years at pretty much every gig I've played, and it's never failed me, not a single time (though I have bought a couple of spares since). And I love how it sounds. So, I'm just fine with pedals. I got a Strymon El Capistan some two years ago, and have been playing around with that at home, and maybe in due time I'll use it with the band. It's a nice pedal, I like it, very flexible, sounds good.)
Let us know how you like the Catalinbread Echorec, if you get it!
