Little late to the party, I guess. I seem to recall spending several hours, off and on, editing the old Wiki site. Is it back now? I guess what I am asking is if the old data is still in there?

Okay...I see what you have there. Looks like the only remains of the old content is from the archive.org snapshot. http://web.archive.org/web/20080517055613/http://wiki.surfguitar101.com/ This may help rebuild it? — |

I probably have an archived database of the old wiki. That's pretty amazing the wayback machine hit our little wiki way back then. I tried to follow some of the links but they were either not archived or I got some server maintenance error. I'd say start over. —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

Wiki news: there is now a link to the wiki in the left sidebar. I also added a footer logo on the actual wiki to take you back here to SG101. It seems like it isn't too hard to customize the wiki with logos or images, so if you have any ideas, please send them my way. Finally I added a "Wiki badge" and awarded it to the first 4 editors (Moi, Jonpaul, TFJ, and raito). Yes, the icon is a bit boring, but it will do until someone makes a better one. If we outgrow this thread I could create a wiki sub-forum to discuss the wiki's development. —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

More hype for the wiki and a call for editors: The cool thing about the wiki is someone will scratch in some information, and then someone else will fill in the missing data or add some more content. It is really easy to do once you get the hang of it. It doesn't have to be time consuming, work on it in 10 or 15 minute chunks as you have free time. I asked Rick Mills for the Volcanos 7" and compilation info and he graciously got it for me. I updated the Volcanos page started by raito with the info along with a picture from their MySpace. Bit by bit we can build off each others contributions and make something much, much larger than one person could. I added a page with some instructions on how to add a band to the band wiki. Check it out! Intimidated? Don't be. There is extensive help available, including the multipage Wiki Course. You can also edit in the sandbox for practicing. If you ever wonder how somebody did something, just click the Edit link and you can see what the markup looks like. —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

I forgot, check the Recent Changes page to see what people are working on (and keep an eye out for spammers) http://wiki.surfguitar101.com/RecentChanges There are many more useful links on the front page of the wiki. —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

Thanks MidwestSurfGuy for working on the wiki tonight! —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

One section/template that might be useful would be one for compilations. It's nice that the band template is somewhat geared to their own releases, but there's a lot of comps out there. If I were really clever, and/or had more time, I'd try to figure out some standard for entering them where a process would either pick up from the comp page or from the band page and create the other (i.e. enter a compilation track on the band page, and voila! it creates/adds to the comp's page). Really, I just need to do more than put in the one page I did (though that seems to have worked out). |

Guy PM'ed me some questions about the wiki that I think I'll reply to here in order to spread the knowledge out. If you have a word that is a WikiName like AmpFibians that you don't want to make a link for, just put a ! in front of it: !AmpFibians. Guy also asked about hot-linking images and what happens if they go away. You can upload images to the wiki page as an attachment, and display the attachment. I did that on the Laika & The Cosmonauts page. Just click the edit button to see how I did that. Besides the band database, I want to add sections to the surf music FAQ listing DVDs, and the musician FAQ listing instructional resources. I keep telling myself I should work on it over lunch at work, but I am lazy and forget to bring my lunch so then I end up going out. I must stop that now that it is cold here. So thanks again Guy for scribbling on the wiki. It motivates me when I know others are interested. Maybe we can get some critical mass on this project finally. —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea Last edited: Feb 02, 2013 11:20:23 |

Also, how do you want the releases ordered? Latest first, or latest last? |

Umm... is there a consensus yet? Oldest first? —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |
