If my ancient memory serves me right, there was no stage at your last gig Eddie. LOL And besides who in their right mind wouldn't want to carry in a cherry Fender Showman!! Thanks ToneBoy, we're really glad you could join us (Pretty cool amp, I agree). That organized movement you are talking about is called "dancing", and if the band sounds good.....some people off stage may try it. Next time you are watching that Shadows Vid, pick up one of your Jazzmasters, (I recommend the white one) and try playing along AND moving like they are at the same time. It ain't patting your head and rubbing yer tummy....It's tough.....Now, back to my nap. ZZZZZzzzzzz. ed —Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. And thank you Mr. Katcher!! You're right it is tough but, just like playing surf guitar, movement on stage takes practice. Of course another way of looking at all this is to recognize that not all surf bands perform the same way (i.e., movement, dancing, POGO...etc.) but the common thread through it all is the music. Its a good thing that each band is unique. Heck, if it were all exactly the same it might get boring and both of us old timers would have more nap time... Jumping around onstage is for PUNK ROCK BANDS! A few years ago my short-lived side project The Secret Surfers opened for a fairly well-known band in Portland and when they came out they immediately adopted this splayed-leg Ramones-esque pose before they even played a note. I thought it was kind of ridiculous myself. |

I can say for one, I ventured down that path just last Tuesday. I don't know for sure if there was much moving going on, but apparently it was quite amusing. Granted, the aftermath of the night was NOT amusing. All I know is I did a LOT of shots in a VERY little time... and I wound up playing the last song of the set (or so they tell me) about two and a half or three steps out of key. I just wish I remember the last 5-6 songs of the set. Oh well, I guess I'll just chalk it up to experience. I'll stick to Pabst, thanks. ~B~ |
