I used to say Surf meets The Black Keys, thinking that young and old may have something to grab onto but the younger folks don't have any idea what Surf is (as indicated in a previous thread) and we don't sound like The Black Keys that often, certainly don't have that cool factor.
Often times I'll use TV show or Movie themes as references like "we kind of sound like the music for Californication" but in the end I just tell them we're a Surfadelicspyago-go band and that usually ends the conversation. LOL!

Charlie (televibes) had such a hard time explaining his band until he figured out that I was familiar with surf and garage rock. He still couldn't really explain it, and told me to look it up. There's some wierd stuff out there, and sometimes YouTube is really helpful.

IMO.
