I am from the land of Ed Gein. Been by all of the landmarks. Grew up in Madison WI. Where Ed Gein was committed -The Mendota Mental Hospital. I have an ex-girlfriend whose mom worked there for years. She even danced with him at their Christmas dances. Gein and the Graverobbers doesn't offend me in the least, neither does Surftaliban or anal cunt. Now a band name like menudo, that bothers the hell out of me.

not sure if this is the right time/place, but are Gein & the Graverobbers defunct? I can't find anything about them after the Gruesome Twosome CD with 2 albums on it. that's 2007.

Hey davis, it's as good a time and place as any. Gein and The Graverobbers are in the grave, so to speak. Gein is now playing bass with the metal band Black Pyramid, and Myra is in a surf/garage group with John from The Crimson Ghosts, Jim from The Nebulas, and the last bass player for The Graverobbers. It's been a long time since I saw them, I believe 2007, but they were a great live band that left an impression where we booked them. The Necrotone label is still being run by John and all their releases are still available except maybe the very early ones.

Muslims ought to be offended by Taliban. Are you saying we should just be bland in the face of something as ugly as taliban? They deserve to be lampooned into the graveyard.

Alright... here is the deal. You cannot compare Nazis and the Taliban and how they are satired in modern society. When somebody skewers the Taliban, 95% of the time they are just doing a stereotypical impersonation of a Arabic Muslim. When somebody skewers Nazis they are doing a flamboyant Hitler or insane SS officer and is clearly over the top. This does not single out German, Europeans, Caucasians, and is usually unoffensive to the majority of the Jewish population.

Now, more than ever, it is of upmost importance to treat Arabic Muslims with as much respect as we can. Putting a picture of a Muslim woman on a surf board does not help, etc...

99.9% of Muslims are fantastic people who happen to have a different cultural and belief structures. This should be respected, and usually their beliefs end up as a joke whenever we try to lampoon them. They have any practices and beliefs I do not believe in, but we will get nowhere unless we are unfailingly kind to them and just try to be the best people(examples) we can.

Apparently they couldn't show the film anywhere in America because it makes fun of unfunny Nazis. I thought they were hilarious.

This is untrue. I'm not sure if you mean "the Great Dictator" or "Iron Sky", but it is untrue in both cases. Iron Sky is available to rent many places, production value is way too low to ever warrant a release in theatres, also it kind of sucks(great idea though). And The Great Dictator was successful in the States(wikipedia).

In any country and society there are bad examples and good examples of people. Every country has its racists that spoil things for everybody else. In countries that speak drastically different languages there is a major chance for taking things the wrong way in a major way, we just need to be more careful of that. Maybe one less lampooning of Arabic Muslim ways would save a hostage from being kill by an extremist? Or maybe it would stop a larger scale attack? Worth a try, no?

If artists become overly sensitive about the sentiments of those whom they refer to either neutrally or critically, they self-censor and pretty soon the virtues of a free society become moot – formerly free mimicking the unfree to stay out of trouble.
Iron Sky was a good film insofar as it was critical of US power and the thin line separating Nazis with cool uniforms and Superpowers with nothing going on but lust for more power and vanity. It shows how domination is domination, whether there is hokey ideology behind it or not. Same goes for hypersensitive Islam, which has always been quite free with its defamation and denigration of the rest of us. I am not saying that muslims are bad people – it's just that Muslim society is bad for people. Ask any Eastern European or Middle Eastern Christian and they will talk your ear off about it. So in light of that, the show of distaste about anyone lampooning the least item or the most egregious (such as Taliban thug b*stards) element of Muslim society is not only OK but required of artists. Not to say our young friend was being all that responsible in his name choice. But I would not censor him. He should confront the storm his casual joke stirs up. The threat which lies behind this conversation is that of Islamic extremism. You know David Byrne and Brian Eno made a seminal album in 1979-80, "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts" which included a track called "Qu'ran". They left that track off the repressing because someone called them and told them they found it offensive that the Holy Book of Islam was being used in their music. The whole rest of the album is chock full of other religious material, mostly Black folks'. None of them called these artists to unsubtly put the fear of God in them. When was the last time anyone was effectively intimidated by a Christian? So to put the matter briefly, Taliban are definitely fair game for art and lampooning, as are the Nazis, North Korea, Sarah Palin and the IDF for that matter. Power and its abuse needs to be taken down a notch. Something that scares us deserves to be belittled. That's a healthy artistic response to stress.
