Permalink THE STADCO SOUNDMASTER!!!!!

New Topic

So i finally got the guitar i talked about on the "wha'ts ur favorite surf guitar" thread i got this from my band teacher it was in REALLY bad shape i basically glued the fretboard back onto the neck and bought some new tuners for it. it plays ok but i always wondered if there were others out there. A Day before i went to go get tickets to that theater where the Tomorrowmen Played, i stumbled upon a Pawn shop kid of place, when i see a really familar looking guitar it was a white 60s japanese guitar that seemed to be made just like my stadco sound master, but this one actually had the Wammy bar on it! i asked the guy about it and he said 150 im hoping its still there until friday when i recieve my check. Well back to my post. Here are some more pictures of it, i'm just wondering if anyone else has seen this type of guitars around!

This guitar looks like the slew of nearly identical Japanese guitars from the 1960s. (Moreover, it looks really hard to play!) A lot of them were made by the Tokyo Electric Instrument and Sound Company.

Is this Japanese, I wonder? Italian? Eastern European? Hats off to you, man, whatever it is!

yeah it says japan on the back neck plate. i dont think its a Teisco though i really feel like the neck should be replaced by something a little better. and the electronics are all jsut crap! there's always something wrong with it when i plug it in. its really light too, like a little too light...its missing some fret inlays haha and the back of the neck the paint is just chipping off its a really nice guitar to lok at though!!

First Post!

Hey Mr Reverb. I know im about 5 years late. Wanted to let you know i grabbed myself a soundmaster for 150 about 6 months ago. our guitars are practically identical; same color, tuners, bridge, tremelo..
BUT... Mine has 3 pickups.. They look like similar to gold foils, but I'm pretty sure they arent true de'Armonds..
I have white plastic on/off for all 3 pups as well as the "solo/Rythm" switch (+3 vol 1 tone). I havent seen any pics of a 3 pu model or found any info on this company since. My guess is teisco. I'd love to know if you've found anything else out on this company or if you picked up that one in the pawn shop.
Best regards,
-Lamps

Exactly what I thought of the collection of 60s jap guitars I used to own, until I picked them up to play lol. Bought them on looks only, thought they'd be all the hype that people make them to be. Back to craigslist they went! Some can have a cool sound though, but playing them is a different story. The only "budget" guitars that seem to be pretty good are Kays, I love em. I've had a Teisco tulip that was setup nicely, but it sounded terrible. Sorry to be the wet blanket of the thread Smile

Just noticed the thread is from 2008 Embarrassed , oh well

Looks much like the Tel-Stars of the same era...
