File this under: "I don't know why I didn't do this years ago"... While I'm not a dedicated "stare at my hands all the time guitarist", I do glance down frequently when I'm sliding around the neck. But, I often play in really dark bars, so dark I can't see the dots on top of the neck of my Jazzmaster. Yesterday, I had an unbelievable flash of genius and cut little arrows out of a mailing label and stuck them on the neck. Tonight, we played at the Forbidden Island, which is largely illuminated by puffer fish lamps and the flames coming off a Scorpion Bowl. I tell you, it was amazing how much of a difference being able to clearly see the fret markers made, my confidence was way. If you have this problem, try this simple 5ยข solution!

That's cheating Ferenc! ;D

Be careful following the masses. Sometimes the "M" is silent...........................

A friend of mine did quite the same with a white permanent marker on his vintage Rickenbacker

The idea seems sound in theory, but that honest face sells it.

Maybe a Univox does surf...

Be careful with that type of glue on fretboards, come summer it will probably become sticky and melt into the wood. Nightmare to remove, you'll resort to solvent cleaner and that will lighten the shade of wood.

Ferenc, it is too late. Patent lawyers are going to be all over you now. Fender will certainly be calling for stealing 'their' Gretch patents and Apple will surely jump into the ring for this as it is pretty similar to the new iPhones power button.

Wow this really inspired me. Since we rehearse in a really dark cellar, I'm gonna mark all the lids with iluminous tape on my beercans. So I can find them & open them easier in the dark!

Great, simple idea--I like it. Plus, you may have sparked another great inspiration to raise money for the website. Be the first on your block to own a gen-u-ine SG101 Pufferfish Lamp! Brian, you ought to be able to find a gross of them on Ebay for a song (ha!), place part of a mailing label (PolloGuitar can supply you with his extras) on each, printed with the SG101 logo. They'll sell like cheap drugs!

More cowbell?? Nah...More Reverb!!

I thought about this, that's why I used a mailing label, very low tack adhesive.

Actually, this wouldn't look at all out of place with the TMen's current uniforms.

Nice simple and cheap..jut how I like my..(scratch that)! Cool idea though Ferenc and likely will hold up better than those flash markers on the Danny Gatton Teles

www.northofmalibu.com

You could just dip your hands in phosphorus.

I was thinking of the Danny Gatton tele, what does it have? I think cubic zirconium fret markers that he mentioned were for playing in dark bars.

A more permanent and labor intensive tactic is to drill out the current dots and replace them with glow in the dark ones. Love this.

IMO.

'63 Jazzmaster. Drilling into them is a no-no.

On a somewhat related note, sold my '65 today and bought a '60 Jazzmaster today!

On my '64 Kay Vanguard there aren't any markers on the top, just a few dots on the fretboard, so I took a few drops of whiteout and "painted" some white dots on top so I can see where I'm at. It doesn't damage the guitar and can be scratched off, so every few months I give it a few refreshing touch ups. Helps me see what I'm doing (or should be doing).

That's what you get for Monkeeing around. Wink
