Permalink newb Q: what is this guy doing in this simple surf riff?

1 minute into this video - http://www.line6.com/media/tonecore/video/verbzillavideo.html - the guy is playing a great sounding surf progression, that to me is a simple looking arpeggio, he moves around a little. I cannot figure out ewxactly what he is doing/playing. Can someone help?

Thank you.

looks (and sounds) like a variation on "Pipeline": Em and Am for the main riff and then a B, C, B, C, B, C, Am section...

ps: that "verbzilla" didn't have enough "drip" for my taste...

I agree with the lack of 'drip' on the pedal. But I'm not so sure on the interpretation of the song. Pipeline is one of the first 3 surf songs I learned, and I don't here it in that arpeggio. I play pipeline as an Em riff, not a moving arpeggio.

ANyone else know what he's playing?

i think he's hitting the low G note (on the E string) while arpeggiating an Em chord...

then he hits low C (on the A string) and apeggiates the Am chord...

at least that's how it looks/sounds to me...

Not EXACTLY "Pipeline", but close...

Smile best wishes,

i think what Dave ment is that, is is a pipeline-esk riff. Pretty much useing the feel of the original but changing the voicing. I am sure there are thousands of pipeline-esk riffs they people have conjured up.
