Permalink (No longer) For Sale: '61 Reverb Unit #312

New Topic

Well, I never thought I'd do this, but due to circumstances I've put my '61 Reverb Unit up for sale. It's an early one, #312 off the line, and it's sounds incredible. It's up on eBay right now: http://www.ebay.com/itm/121038940687?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

I thought I'd post it here because I'd really like it to go to one of the fine, surf music loving folks here on SG101. My asking price is $850 shipped to the 48 states, but feel free to throw offers at me if you're interested. I realize the auction pics are a little dark so I can happily provide more/better pics if needed.

Don't do it Nick, you'll regret it. Sell something else. Don't join the countless ranks of people who sold off their vintage gear and regretted it. My case was a '66 Jaguar I traded for some crap, before I discovered the joys of surf music.

I appreciate that, Danny. And I understand what you're saying - I've already sold more vintage gear than I care to think about. Times are tough for my family right now though, and I've just about run out of stuff to sell. I hope things turn around soon, but the last year and a half have not been kind to us.

Nick, I'm sorry things are so tight for you and I don't mean to make you feel worse about it. Of course you have to do what you can to support your family. Stuff is just stuff, and we can get by on very little if necessary. I'm sure I speak for all the SG101'ers when I say that we hope life gets better for you soon.

Well, here's a reply from one of the "countless ranks" that Tomorrowman Danny S. refers to above: I'm sorry I don't want to buy the reverb unit (SER # 312) & I REALLY wish for things to get better for you ! I would suggest THO' that you exhaust all possible avenues before you sell off vintage gear & equipment that you have. Although it's been awhile, (many years) I wish I still had my 64' Super Reverb, 66' Strat, 67' (maple board)Tele & #044 (gray) Echoplex. As I look back, I "probably" could have gotten the x-tra cash by selling off something else....I wouldn't want you looking back in a few years with regret. Just a thought & the BEST of luck & Blessings to you !

I really appreciate the kind words. "Stuff is just stuff" is my mantra in recent years. Here's a list of the just the vintage Fender gear I've sold off since times turned sour: '65 Mustang, '66 Music Master 2, '68 Bandmaster, '68 Vibro Champ, '75 Vibro Champ, '66 Bassman, '63 Tremolux, '79 Strat and a '79 Princeton Reverb. There may be more stuff I'm forgetting/blocked out of memory. It was a nice collection while it lasted, that's for sure!

I agree that stuff is stuff. I've had to sell off many many things over the years and yes, I do regret having to let it go, but a guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do. Besides, stuff just isn't selling these days and I think that's because the market is too high. Nick's reverb is priced right and I'm glad he posted it here to keep it in the surf "family." I'm in the same boat financially, but luckily have found ways to keep things going. I used to rely on selling good stuff to make ends meet; but again,it's just not moving these days.

Well, I've done quite a bit of thinking and "soul searching" and have decided to hang onto my reverb unit until the bitter end. I appreciate the kinds words and advice of Danny, Seafoam Johnny and jonfender. I also apologize to those folks who were thinking about purchasing my unit.

I've sold tons of gear from my collection, but nothing as rare and unique as this unit. After doing some research, I discoverd that serial numbers began at R00100, which means that this one is actually number 212 off the line, not 312. I've never come across an older one in my many years of playing surf music and seeking out vintage Fender gear.

So my many thanks to this community, once again, for being supportive and encouraging me to make the right decision instead of taking advantage of my situation and moment of anxiety and weakness.

Can't say I blame you one bit. A wise decision I'm sure.
