Those are sweet looking guitars. Fender should do a "modern" or "vintage modified" reissue of them, since I think they'd look cool with an early 60's duo sonic/musicmaster neck, 2 strat or mustang style pickups, and a mustang style trem to match the pickguards.

Agreed. Two or three pickups and a whammy bar.

It would still look like someone took a saw to a Mustang, Oh the Humanity!

Wow, for $16K I would expect to see some serious documentation as to the authenticity of the alleged prototype. I've always heard that the Arrow was a CBS effort to use up old stock in a creative way. 'Course, that could just be legend. Does anyone know of documentation showing that Fender was noodling around with this design in the '50's?

My guess is that someone had fun with a few leftover parts that they had. Mustang style pickguards and control panels were a ways off still, the knobs wouldn't have been original, and there's a hole above the pickguard next to the neck where a stock duo sonic pickguard screw would have gone it looks like. I don't know about you guys, but something is rotten in Denmark, and it isn't the cheese.

Body cut looks like a Rondo SX jazzmaster.
