Jeff, Their song Born Unto Trouble has sort of a spaghetti western tone to it. This is a new band to me. Thanks. Talk to you later, |

IMO (I have most of their CDs) you can't go wrong with Friends of Dean Martinez. Also similar to the above mentioned: Mono, God Is An Astronaut, and at times, Pelican. |

I am a HUGE post-rock fan. If you want instro atmosphere without the exotica/surf/alt-country vibe, check out some of the bands listed above and below. I was listening to Red Sparrowes on the way to work today and I didnt want to leave my car. I just get in awe of how deep some of these instro bands go. Mono live is so powerful and so full of emotion that my wife actually tears up, and her favorite concerts are Gwar and Primus! So that says something about their atmosphere and vibe for sure. And Godspeed You Black Emperor live is a vastly different concert experience (not to mention truly moving) that both times I saw them literally left me silent and contemplative for many hours afterward. I didn't have words to express the experience, which is what really good transcendent instro music is supposed to do. Sonic iconoclasm at its best. All that said, I am also a huge fan of Friends of Dean Martinez. I have all of their stuff and love nearly every minute of it. FoDM is how John and Joey from Calexico met, and you can hear their influence on the early albums as well. Last edited: Nov 28, 2012 16:40:30 |
