I felt compelled to make the following tribute to Eddie, seeing as how its one of my favorite tracks ever and I dont ever remember seeing it on youtube. I hope it can help someone else discover amazing talent, just like I did once. RIP Eddie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kstQGIHe9YE&feature=youtu.be —http://reverbnation.com/Bodysnatchers |

I love Faraway Places. We opened our set at the SG101 convention with it this past August, and though we dedicated it to Baja Marty, I was very much thinking of Eddie while we were performing it, as well. it was pretty emotional - especially when I looked up to see all those guys with their fists in the air in front of Marty's portrait. Definitely got choked up at that moment... —Ivan |

Sad news, indeed - but what a life to celebrate & one that won't soon be forgotten. I really appreciate you taking the time to collect & read our letters to him. I never met the man. And to be honest, I only recently saw his face. I only knew my favorite 1st wave surf bands from a bin of old records at my parent's friend's house. I went through them over a couple of weekends & dubbed cassette copies that I cherished until they were either eaten by a cassette player or became unplayable from overuse! I gather from the response here that like my letter indicated, his music & his legacy has inspired many artists to follow in his footsteps. His music has survived multiple generations & will be cherished by many to come. It's as much a part of our lives as the precious memories of him in those who were fortunate enough to know him personally. In the end, if there is one method we could use to evaluate a life well lived, we could inventory what is left behind. If I could walk across the threshold from this world to the next knowing I created half as much joy in the hearts of my loved ones, fans, & total strangers as he did, I'd say it all worked out pretty well. Rest in peace, Eddie Bertrand. Wake the Kraken will dedicate our next show tomorrow to you & play Mr. Moto with all the passion & ferocity we can muster. —Wake the Kraken! https://www.facebook.com/wakethekraken Last edited: Oct 29, 2012 12:10:36 |

A lot have people have asked about services for Eddie. In a private ceremony, his ashes will be scattered at sea off his beloved Palos Verdes shoreline. After, his family will be hosting a reception at the 22nd St Landing Restaurant in San Pedro. It will be on a Saturday. No date yet. Seems that in Ca and LA County you need a permit to scatter ones ashes at sea. It will be sometime in November, possibly two to three weeks.. I will report back as info becomes available. Also after the first of the year, possibly in the spring, there may be some sort of musical tribute event for Eddie in order to celebrate his life and music. This is only talk at this time. MSN finally covered the passing of Eddie. It was, however, a week late and stated that he passed this past Saturday. http://music.msn.com/music/article.aspx?news=772981 —THE KBK ... This is the last known signal. We offer Sanctuary. www.thekbk.com |

The article is only a couple sentences, but it does have a link to a lot of youtube videos. Wikipedia finally put a listing for Eddie under "Deaths in 2012" (Oct 27). Last edited: Nov 05, 2012 09:08:39 |

On behalf of the Board of Directors at the Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum we wish to send many blessings and prayers to Eddie's family and friends. We were truly blessed to have this very talented legend appear on our stage several times during our Surfin' Sundays Summer Concert Series. One of my fondest memories was him playing at my 60th birthday party at the Gas Lamp Restaurant in Long Beach in 2008 with The Eliminators. Thanks to Outerwave Jerry Rogers there were a total of 10 bands over ten hours shredding the place to bits much to everyone's delight. What an incredibly awesome day! RIP Eddie you will be fondly remembered but sorely missed. We send our love to you! I'm a lover not a fighter, a hugger not a handshaker and I take friendships very seriously...Love the life you live, live the life you love. |

I can't help but think Eddie is with Leo Fender today, talkin' shop as usual. Eddie spoke more highly of Leo than any other as far as I know. He really thought of Leo as "a Father". Happy Birthday Edward. — |

I love the Leo Fender story Eddie tells in the Squad Car cd notes. Imagine a 15 year old kid walking into the Fender factory asking to speak to Mr. Fender about his blown speaker. And he gets in to see him! Another reminder of what an audacious young man he was, consider that all the music we remember Eddie for was written and recorded before he was 20. |
