From Eddies brother John Bertrand....
Arrangements are moving forward nicely. We will do the memorial on Sunday, 11/18 at the 22nd Street Landing, San Pedro. As I mentioned, our neighbors own the 22nd Street Landing restaurant, (141 West 22nd Street San Pedro, CA 90731) and know all the boat people well. They have helped us arrange to have a boat that will take us out around 3:30 p.m.; we will drop the ashes, circle the ashes three times, allow us to drop flowers into the water, and do a champayne toast. We’ll be back at the dock around 5 and go up into the restaurant for a reception. The boat can hold up to 70 so anyone (up to 70) can go out on the boat.
So next up is how to get the word out and an rsvp list. I’d like to ask that each of you reach out to the special people that may want to be on the boat and provide me names to assure they have a space; then we can put out an announcement of some sort on Facebook.

I can't be there in person, but this is what we did after my kid brother died. He lived to sail and always wanted this. It's a very special way to say good-bye. I strongly recommend going if there's any way. Wish I could.

Eddie's memorial was by far one of the most fitting I have ever attended. His brother John did it just right--simple and concise, yet powerful and emotional. We all met at the docks at the 22nd St. landing in San Pedro and proceeded onto what turned out to be the oldest licensed fishing boat in that harbor, one that the captain had worked on as a youth and eventually bought. I mention this because it was obvious that, while he never knew Eddie personally, the captain felt a mutual connection to the sea and perhaps injected a bit more personal interest than is common.
After an exhilarating ride out past the lighthouse to the vicinity of the famous sea lion buoy, we dropped anchor and everyone gathered at the front of the boat. Roses were handed out to everyone and certain individuals came up one by one to say a few personal words about Eddie. It was truly moving to hear some of the original Showmen and other folks that were present back in the day share their experiences with and praise for such a legend. The ashes were slowly lowered into the water and began to drift away into the sunset, followed by the tossing of the roses. It was a profound, quiet moment felt deeply by everyone on board.
After circling the ashes a few times and saying final goodbyes, we returned to the landing for a very nice gathering in a banquet room at the 22nd St. Landing restaurant. There, friends, family and fans had the opportunity to look through and admire several tables full of vintage photos, posters, clothing, scrapbooks and other Eddie-related history. It was such a thrill to be able to hold so many iconic photos in my own hands and really gain a whole other insight into the spirit of those classic days of the first wave.
Again, special thanks to Eddie's brother John for providing such a wonderful and memorable goodbye, and to HBKahuna Tim for being such a dedicated friend to Eddie and keeping us all in the information loop.

A long way from Atlanta to San Pedro...............but you know, it really isn't all that far.

The beach in Pedro is a beautiful and special spot..I grew up and learned to surf there...a fitting spot...ride on Eddie

Dick Dodd, Eddie's drummer in the Belairs and Showmen had a show with The Standells in Oakland the night before and was unable to make it back in time. Dick was very upset he was unable to attend. He asked me to pass on how deeply saddened he is over the passing of Eddie. Dick says if not for Eddie he would never have been in The Standells.
