Perhaps my response above was over generalized. Or those who are trying to solve a problem thought it was directed at them. It wasn't. It was more in conjunction with what Snufkino wrote about other forums like Harmony Central.
What i can tell you (and this you know) is on any forum, yahoo group, googlegroup, etc and with any topic from guitars to motorcycles to cooking: there will always be new people, there will always be people with more experience. With that comes the human nature. there are always the wise sages that is always willing to talk to the grasshopper.
Then there are the people that log on to their favorite forum and see "another post about where to buy a guitar strings". Many will say "if you can get on a computer, get on to the internet, set up an email, locate a forum, sign up for that and register.. THEN enter a question, you can probably do a search at yahoo or google and be done with it. it's not THAT hard. if fact it's more difficult to get on a forum."
that being said, it was more of if people can't be "bothered" helping the new folks, just quietly move aside and just let the people that want to help, help. That didn't specifically happen here, but it has in other threads.
Posting funny sarcastic pics, posting an inside joke to the rest of the more seasoned forum members etc alienates the newcomers. A new person won't understand what a crying baby exactly means when posed next to an effect pedal.
If you refer back to any of my posts at any thread, i would say they have all been helpful or at least positive.

It's not my site, so I'm not going to tell you how to run it. I will say that I'm not bothered at all by multiple threads on the same topic. All forums have them. And a site like this with relatively small number of posters needs all the activity it can get.

Brian pretty much pays for this resource on his own dime, not to mention the countless hours gone into developing this forum, so he shouldn't have to apologize to easily-offended people who are getting honest and free advice, period.
People just need to get a thicker skin. So what if there's occasionally a bit of very light hazing from older members? It helps with the monotony, and one should really be adult enough not to get all insecure about it anyway.

You know, the best solution for the problem being addressed is for people who create duplicate threads, when called out on it, to just say "oops...sorry! I will make note of that and not make the mistake again".
Welcome to the community, newcomer. I hope you will enjoy your time here and learn as much as so many of us have.

Here's stating the obvious:
This site is the ultimate resource on Surf and instro music. As such, the more organized the information on it, the easier it is to all of us (in the long term) to find what we need.
So less repeated threads is a good thing. Also common sense (and courtesy) to seek info passively (search) before asking, chances are the subject has come up before.
Reviving old threads is kinda fun, correlating with the continuity and old-timey nature of the genre itself!

Does anyone have any reviews of reverb pedals?

I will have to say this... of all the forums i do go on, this is my number 1. It's more concise, better quality, not a lot of fluff.
At work i listen to youtube.. click a video and let'em play. I listened to a lof to Buddy Merrill/Neil Levang.. Followed by John Prine for a bit. So i am by no means instrumental/surfcentric. But i like the direction and discussions here. The gear that is discussed, etc.
my sincere apologies to Brian, et al, who i may have offended earlier.

Thanks so1om.
Well said Ariel. As a software engineer I am taught to never repeat myself. Never store the same information in more than one place. This is why I am OCD about starting duplicate threads.
But again, it isn't a huge problem.
Crumble has an excellent idea and might just be the trick.
If I get ambitious another thing I could do is perform an automatic search on the "New Topic" page after the user has entered their new thread title in the box. The user could then decide to proceed with the new topic or just reply to an existing thread.

Someone brought this to my attention. It's a question (and all the reponses) on RV.Net about parking motorhomes at WalMarts. It's worth a read. I especially like the comment about $50 fines for starting duplicate threads.

I ordered a Boss FRV-1 Saturday night. When it arrives I'll give a review of it in this thread. The only downside is I've never played through a tank to compare it to.

Congratulations! Feel free to ask any satisfied users for initial settings to get started if you have any questions.

Thanks Noel! I certainly want to get the best drip out of it and if I can find the setting I'll ask. But I love finding stuff out on my own first lol.

I have just noticed a little irony in this whole debate about "we have done FRV to death, STOP, Search and Listen" and that is that when you click on forums and scroll to "Gear" it says, "GEAR" For questions and discussions about instruments, amplifiers and yes, Outboard reverb units".
Just an observation folks
BTW, I have both units and can make use of them in different circumstances so my advice is if you are a serious Surfer get Both!!
Cheers

I actually have nothing against the FRV-1 and honestly wouldn't mind getting one as a backup for my tank, but I would never make the mistake of calling it an "outboard reverb unit". It's a reverb pedal. I know it's just semantics, but if someone on craig's list told me they were selling their "outboard reverb unit" and then showed me that, things might get ugly.

Goodness me, it was a light hearted quip. Yep, I think you are right Morphball, semantics. a newbie would look at the "GEAR" forum, read outboard reverb units and think " its outboard, it does reverb and it does one effect, it is in essence a unit" so I will ask about it before I buy one. Who on earth really cares if you call it a unit or pedal?
Wow, feelings run high over some very trivial points.
Sad to see things can get ugly over a minor misunderstanding.

Surfocaster, I don't think morphball is upset. Yes, the gear forum is the place to talk about gear; that includes reverb units of all kinds. However, it is common courtesy to search before creating a new topic, no matter what the topic is.
