Permalink Fender GDEC 30 ... Anybody using one for practice or recording?

Hey Gang...

I'm looking to get the Fender GDec 30 amp which caries presets and the ability to record directly into a laptop. It is hard to get people to Jam Surf with and I really want to work on my chops.

Has anybody ever used this amp? can anybody tell me things good or bad about it?... Please let me know.

Fish

I use one but I'm an absolute beginner. It has the capabilities of doing so many things for teaching such as recording, tempo change, playing backing tracks, plus all the possibilities of settings.

I have the 15, and really like it as a practice amp. It's fun to fool around with the various emulations, too, when I get the (rare) yen to step outside the surf zone for a while. I found a deal on it through Musician's friend--$100. Couldn't pass it up at that price and have been quite happy with it.

Make sure you get the 2nd gen gdec. I almost pulled the trigger on one untill I realized it was outdated. The 2nd gen models have added a usb output and they worked with proffessional musicians to create some great backing tracks.

When you see G-Dec3, that is the new version.

I've got one, I'm not too computer savvy and haven't used many of the features. I've found some tones I like but sometimes it would be nice to have a reverb knob to turn. I was hoping for a good forum like this for the Gdec3 haven't found it yet.

I have the first generation GDEC. I'm a beginning surf guitarist and find the GDEC to be a great practice amp. I use the drum and bass settings as a metronome, and on the "Surf Dawg" and "Surf's up" emulations to jam. My neighbors and my wife really appreciate the headphone jack as well.

Thank you everyone for your great advice... Now.. can someone convince the "Girlfriend" that this a wise "pre engagement ring purchase?....

Hey, it's a terrific pre-engagement purchase! I just wish I'd thought to register at a guitar store before I got married.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Supercompdad , I assume for your forum name you have a child in super comp. The way to your success with the g-dec. is using the usb cable and the software. It will take a little trial and error but when you find the all the settings that you can do with it, you will be smiling. This is like "happiness is running on the index".

wfoguy, 100% correct. My daughter drives our rear engine dragster. That's the only reason I'm not sporting a 62 re-issue jazzmaster. The engine wants the $$. I will take your advise and work on the Gdec more. Thanks

I've had a G-Dec for years now (1st Gen) and it was brilliant up until the grandkids decided to play "Spin that Dial" after that happened, all the settings went to hell in a hand basket and haven't come back.....

My granddaughter plays spin the dial too. Worked OK for her until one day she did it when it was turned on and then she strummed the guitar. Scared the heck out of her. I about split a gut laughing. She wasn't traumatized because she still does it.

I was considering one for my son and upon researching it, found that they have a very poor reputation for reliability. So much so, that they no longer make them, now replaced with the Mustang series which have apparently corrected the reliability problem and still have all the computer connectivity and Fender software that comes with them.
