Welp... we were back in the studio laying drum tracks down for 4 new songs. Thought you might like to see a few pics.
Here's the kit mic'd up to the hilt. 10 mics of various flavors to capture this vintage 1965 Ludwig Ringo Starr Black Oyster Pearl Kit. Complete with vintage drummer too!
Another view...
Since the purpose was strictly to lay down drums, the guitars & bass were D/I'd just for scratch tracks. So Rich and I both used our PODs. Please don't excommunicate us from SG101.
Our usual rig when we're recording guitars...
And ya hafta wear a lucky shirt... (or a Tommowmen Pin)
I can't just yet let you hear what our new songs sound like. But here is what one looks like.
That's all for now.

I see the 414s and the 421s and the SM57. What's that on the hat - a KSM 141?
What do you have on the roto-toms? Single mic for all three?

Thanks for the inquiry. I used an AKG 451B on the hi-hat. And, following the advice of an engineer friend, I miced the 3 rotos with an x-y Neumann KM 184 pair [i am very pleased with the stereo separation]. I used a matched pair of AKG 414s as overheads, but miced them as close as I could to isolate the cymbals. Sure Beta 52 in the kick port. And a Neumann KLM 170 in omni as a room mic at about 10 feet [it sounds awesome on its own]. SM 57 on the snare bottom as well. I think that adds up to 10, but who's counting?
