Thanx for posting this here ! I heard it this morning & thought I recognized it but......."?"....? I have the CD (& the Mobsmen too...they sound somewhat similar & sometimes the 2 play together in Iceland) but I couldn't place it. As the days pass, the mind calcifies but now I will gleefully listen to the WHOLE CD...Thanx to You !

Dane, the Madeira's drummer, told me a few days ago he heard El Ray's Cherry Cheeks and another song from that same album last week that he didn't remember the name of, also on NPR.

My wife works in a local convience store. Their Muzak channel plays rock hits from the 50's to the 70's. It's not uncommon to hear any of the bigger hits such as pipeline or walk don't run.
The supermarket I shop at also has some cool selections. It's really a treat to go food shopping with Wilson Pickett, chuck berry, buddy holly and the everly bros

Reverb...... Putting some drip on your hip since 1951

while channel surfing the other night i came across the horrifying show 'toddlers and tiaras' and stopped dead on it because of the music. it was a swimsuit competition and two different girls had very surfy sounding music for their runway walk. one tune very reminiscent of the nocturnes. creepy.

Don't know if anyone posted about this yet but. Guy Fieri's show "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" has very Surf oriented music playing in the background during most of the show.
I heard 'Wild Weekend' on a local oldies station a few weeks ago.
The same station played half of 'Telstar' a few days later. They interrupted it to play a tired Eagles song(sigh).

Eating at a local chain restaurant a few days a go called Smithfield Barbecue and the piped in music included Walk Don't Run.

Today while listening to NPR, I caught the Ig Nobel prize broadcast. Ig Nobel prize. Apparently, they do a little opera every year. This year's 'opera' used the Miserlou as the melody.

Again, "recently on NPR"....(I think the show was "This American Life" w/Ira Glass).....a 30 sec "bumper" of "Spy Point" from the new "Sonic Blue" CD by the Diamondheads.

walk don't run, at 2:53 Smile

original compositions (low-level demo stuff /out of tune, etc) myStuff not my best, but i don't like to be in a musician community without anything to show

We were in the staging lanes at Cordova Dragway, There was an oildown on the track and while they were cleaning it my daughter pointed out surf music on the PA. We do live near the One Night Standards, maybe that had something to do with it. I sent them an E-mail asking for more.

I went to a gun range for a kid's competition with my boys in the N.Georgia mountains. During a break they played a compilation over the pa called Axes and Saxes from Time Life

When I was with Starbucks we pubished Big Waves - Five Decades of Surf Rock with Rino Records. So, for a while surf musice could even be heard in our cafes.

Happy Sunsets!

Sitting around Belks while my wife tried on clothes, I was deluged with a series of appalling modern pop versions of Christmas songs. In the middle of all that, the Ventures version Jingles Bells came on. It may not exactly be surf, but it sure did wonders for my sanity at that moment!

Definitely some surf fans over at NPR! I hear surf almost every day now on the Morning Edition show; today it was The Madeira's Tribal Fury! Thumbs Up

NPR was playing a variety of surfy Christmas music for a while. They seem to especially like the ventures.

IMO.

Today's "Morning Edition" on NPR w/Steve Inskeep & Renee Montagne featured "Tribal Fires" by the Madiera ! It was used as a "bumper" into the bottom of the hour news (sound familiar ?). This was a bit different tho' because it featured 30 FULL seconds of un-interrupted "Tribal Fires" !! (I timed the rebroadcast). It was featured during the 1st hour of programming following a baseball segment....Congrat to the Madiera & kudos to NPR. LOTS of folks must've heard this !

Thanx......I'm still caught up in the moment & I won't "correct the post".....:bonk:.. .(I have all Madeira & I LOVE it) ! I just heard it again. "Morning Edition" is a 2 hr morning newscast that starts @ 5am Eastern time. The show is re-broadcast thru out the morning for the other time zones & folks on the West Coast are probably just hearing it now ! There are LOTS of NPR stations & most likely this will be heard by lotsa' folks ! Guitar

I'm wondering if Dane heard it too and freaked, haha. If the music director at NPR happens to lurk around here, please introduce yourself, we would love to meet you! (In fact if ANY music director wants recommendations for bumper music, most of the musicians making modern surf music today are on this forum.)
