The saddest thing about this is that Eddie had only (relatively) recently became aware of the massive following and amount of love that was out there for him and his playing. He has his big "comeback" and is playing better than ever, only to have it so cruelly stopped.

very sad news that we have lost Eddie
thought I'd post a few things here
first of all, here's a picture me and Eddie at the Benefit for him at DON THE BEACHCOMBERS in Feb. 2011:
regrettably I never had the privilege of seeing him perform
here are the videos I shot at the EDDIE BERTRAND Tribute/Benefit at DON THE BEACHCOMBERS: (it is 2 pages in SG101)
http://surfguitar101.com/forums/topic/14421/?page=1
here is the Flickr set of pix I took at the benefit:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/unsteadyfreddie/sets/72157625891031161/
one can always drop 'Eddie Bertrand', 'Eddie & The Showmen', 'Bel-Airs', etc. into the search bar on my YouTube Channel (http://www.youtube.com/unsteadyfreddie) -- amazing how many of Eddie's tunes are covered by so many bands!!
for instance I dropped in 'Bertrand', and came up with 2 pages of videos!!

or by entering SQUAD CAR, I got this:

...my thoughts go to all his friends/family who were with him from the beginning and also to his later friends who played with him and took care of him. rest in peace.

In a week or 2, I'll be posting the video of Eddies interview at KCR radio. For reasons known only to him he didn't want it posted till after his death. Leaving something behind for everyone? Who knows. He absolutely once and for all settles the question, "roundwound or flatwound."

Year 2010. Eddie came to Valencia, Spain, and played at Surf-O-Rama festival backed by a great Spanish band called The A-Phonics. First he visited Madrid and came to my radio show for an interview. After four days meeting him I took him from Valencia to Madrid airport in my car, a 230 miles trip talking about life. He was a special guy.
I wrote this lines for him at my blog. There you can find the interview we did at El Sotano radio show (hosted at Radio 3, Spain). Perhaps you will not understand me talking in English (even in Spanish!) but you will understand Eddie answering.
Rest in peace amigo.
Diego

I send my deepest condolences to Eddies family and nearest friends.
The time we spend with our friends or family is limited.
We know that we will loose the heros of the first wave as well as we have to say goodbye to our fathers and mothers one day.
Important is to learn as much as possible from them in the time that is given.
Talk, write down, record, remember.
Life is to leave traces.
Eddie and his generation surely did and still leave a lot.

R.I.P Eddie Bertrand 'Mr. Rebel'
He passed away, but the sound remains in our minds, hearts & hands!
A truly inspiration for any human interested on guitar playing & having fun.
He met the stars & now shines with the legend glow.
All the best to his family & close friends.

Last night I dream someone invested a special phone and I was able to talk to Eddie on the other side. He recognized my voice and said, "Tim... Tim... I'm OK... I'm OK...."

So sorry to hear this. I only met Eddie once, perhaps the last pier show he attended. I remember him listening to one of the bands and commenting on what a great sound they had. My impression was he was such a great soul! RIP Eddie.
