That show REALLY needs to be released on DVD. I believe Paul Johnson owned the masters. Maybe we could do a Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds for its release?

Fantastic, thank you, Ryan. I just pulled out my tape copy of this show (and it is a copy, not the original - somebody dubbed mine from the original VHS, though I forget who - maybe John Blair?) and am watching it right now. These videos are just a fraction of what's on the VHS, which is more than an hour of music. Eddie indeed was on fire, but so was Paul! In fact, everybody played unbelievably good. It's really a great concert.

Eddie seems to be playing a '62 reissue Strat, while Paul is playing his '50s style Fernandes Strat (similar to this one on eBay now, but with the later altered headstock). Tons of vintage Fender amps on the stage, too. Great stuff!

I just watched the full video. GREAT stuff. An hour and 15 minutes of music by: the original Belairs, the second gen Belairs (without Eddie and Dick Dodd, but with Art Fisher), Eddie & the Showmen, PJ & the Galaxies, Dave Marks & the Marksmen, the Packards, & the Halibuts. Afterwards there is nearly 45 minutes of interviews of all of these bands each one in turn, done by Dan Forte, Domenic Priore, John Blair, Bob Dalley, etc. John interviewed Eddie about Eddie & the Showmen, and that's such a great interview. Eddie has a real twinkle in his eyes and a very humble and charming demeanor. This absolutely NEEDS to be released on DVD in its entirety!!

I have this on VHS & DVD. Not a dub but an authorized copy from he masters. I'd love to see this cleaned up and enhanced. I looked into it. About $120 per hour lab time. Not sure how many hours it would take. Moondawg has to be my favorite out of that. Eddie told me he played through his Fender Quad Reverb amp that day. He has two of them. We dug both out of his garage one day around 2007 or 2008, fired them up and made some serious noise.

Saw Eddie a bit ago. Appears to be in an irreversible coma now. I sat with him and talked to him. Not sure if he could hear me.

People who've awakened from deep comas caused by illness, physical trauma and even induced ones, keep surprising medical staff, friends and family by accurately repeating things that were said to them, and even other people's conversations.

I know how difficult this is, but if it were me, I know I'd like to keep hearing my friends talk to me. I'm sorry about what's happened, but what you're doing is so kind. Eddie has true friends, and that's a great blessing. I'm confident he's deeply grateful not to be alone.

I've only met Eddie once so far and I'm sure he was as frustrated as we were.
We were planning on playing a few Eddie and the Showmen tunes with him at a SG101 convention and met at Kyle's parents house the day before to iron out the beginnings, ends, breaks and tempos. It was pretty clear from the start that his back was causing him a lot of pain. I was impressed with his playing and had hoped he would be able to play at the convention, but he just didn't feel up to it. He tried standing, sitting, leaning... but he just couldn't get comfortable.
I hope he can manage his pain and relax a little! The guy sure deserves better. Chin up amigo.

Surfer friends I want to start off 1st with saying please forgive me for my absence here in SG101 life has been super busy and time to surf the net.

There are no words that can express my pain but I will try. Eddie is my mentor and he is like a father to me not because of who he is but the person Eddie is I have never known or experienced with anyone one else besides my wife the "deep connection" and beyond that only happens once or twice in a life time, we hung and spent many many many beyond many of times together as I write this it chokes me up and the pain, this is very hard for me. Eddie is an amazing soul a man who has gone through so much who loves life & music as much the next person. Friends I can't write anymore please keep Eddie in your prayers and ask the universe to see to Eddie.

Godspeed, Eddie. Love & blessings for you and your loved ones.

Eddie is the reason I became a surf music fan after running across one of his 45's many years ago. Prayers for Eddie and his family.
