One day when I was listening to some satellite TV music an instrumental song came on I liked. I thought I caught the title and name of the band by my Sat box doesn't scroll the info correctly so I could have missed it, but I'm pretty sure the band was The Roadrunners and the song was called Roadrunner (or The Roadrunner). I've googled and youtubed, but to no avail. It was a 60s sound and I'm fairly sure it was a 60s channel I was listening to...it kind of reminded me of the Ventures "Rawhide" (not the TV theme) where it was a low string melody that moved around with the chords in a 12-bar type format.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Steve

There was a song called "Road Runnah" that appeared on the Pyramid's Penetration album that was actually by The Road Runners. Maybe that was it?

Another great track by The Road Runners: Quasimoto.
According to John Blair's book they were from Denver, Colorado.

Halelujah! (Denver reference.)
I assume we can eliminate some version of Bo Diddley's Road Runner?
There's Road Agent from Jon & the Nightriders' Stampede. (I think it's a cover of a piece by the Evasions.)

Tuck, yeah it was the same recording, but inexplicably put on the Pyramids album (along with Outer Limits - performed by studio musicians) and credited to the Pyramids. Such shadiness...

Win. Yes that's the one. I recall the chromatic ascent. Thanks!
On a side note, a littly Pipline-y
Had a listen to Quasimoto. Even more Pipline-y!

I thought it sounded very close. Just filtered a little differently on the way to YouTube. Per John Blair the version on the LP is rerecorded. And Quasimoto was issued (rerecorded?) as The Chase by the Star Tones, another Denver band. On the whole a pretty interesting afternoon. Thanks!

Ah, I missed that part in Blair's book about the re-recording. I listened to each video and they sound very close to me, but I'm no expert. The fadeout does sound a little different though, so I could be convinced they are different, but I'm not sure.
I should say that the Pyramids had no idea this was being done. They were surprised that these songs were added to their album, and only learned of it once the album came out.

No, I think you're right. I thought they were very similar too. John Blair said the version on the Road Runners' The New Mustang LP was re-recorded, and I haven't heard that, but it sounds like he had. I gather that at least parts of the album may be available on the web occasionally as a pirate download, though I didn't see any sign of that. Also, now I've seen it claimed that at least the vocals on that album are due to the ubiquitous Gary Usher and crew. (I added that link above.) John doesn't say that and it would seem to be inconsistent with his report.

Typical deal! Makes me wonder about the connections, though, since the Road Runners are supposed to be on a Denver label (I forget which), and the Star Tones, whose The Chase is supposed to be a version of Quasimoto, definitely are.
I'm fascinated to learn about two more first wave Denver surf bands I'd been overlooking.
