I have recently been getting way into the European bands who incorporate world music rhythms into their instro music. Great examples of this are Phantom 4, Los Twang Marvels and Los Venturas. I'm going to add to that list the new band from The Netherlands - Bevel Emboss.
They just posted a news release for their album on our news page and I checked it out. I loved what I heard. First off, the production is very high quality, as we've come to expect from our European surf brethren. The songs are well crafted, with lots of layers and varying instrumentation. The rhythms are quite diverse, really traversing the range of rhythm styles from around the world.
This is very easy to listen music, that really makes you want to get up and move your body. Surf needs more of this I think. I personally have tried to incorporate some of that into my own music without any success so far. It's harder to do (well) than it sounds! I urge everyone to check out their website and preview the music on their spotify page.

I got a promo for my show and it's a VERY solid album. I don't have much to add, perhaps that's it's closer to The Shadows than California-bred ilk, but there's also a slightly edgier spaghetti western side to it. Then again, I haven't listened to it since last week but rest assured I will.

Really really like several of the songs on this one, thanks for the heads up. A little of it felt more country/blues than I wanted, but some truly outstanding songs here.

I've listened to this twice through now. I like it a lot! The guitar approach is more in the Euro-instro/Hank-Marvin vein, but it's a beautiful and highly diverse CD. It reminds me a bit of a mixture of the Phantom Four and Laika & the Cosmonauts, though on occasion it also reminds me of the '90s Scando band the Surftones. Anyway, it's going to take another few listens to get to know it better, but at the moment it seems the second half is more mellow than the first half and doesn't feature those grooves that Danny mentioned, but it's still very cool. A very nice find, Danny, thanks for bringing it to our attention - another winner for 2012!

Hi everybody.
Heard it on the radio yesterday. This is realy a great band. Great tunes! It's allmost surf-rock. It's something new in the surf scene and i love it!! Nice bevel emboss logo by the way!

Even by just the brief samples, I definitely hear the SG101 member references to Los Twang! Marvels (Rumba Nova, I Thought She Was There), and the groovy, rhythmic Phantom Four reference (Arabic). Some other great guitar tones that may not be so surfy, but very tasty never the less.

So, it appears that these guys are all pro-musicians and veterans of fairly successful and well-know Dutch bands (from what I can tell, anyway). Check out their main website: http://www.bevelemboss.com/ This may be a situation kinda like The Break from Australia, where guys that spent a few decades successfully playing music for living finally got to live out their dream of creating and playing surf/instro music. God bless 'em! It's a great album!
