Permalink New Eastwood Sidejack Demo

New Topic

Hey gang,
I posted this demo video of my Eastwood Sidejack DLX through my '66 Super Reverb. When I was looking for sound clips and demos a few months back I found that most weren't done in regard to the instruments lineage and inspiration. Most had distortion, overdrive, fuzz or the player kept the switch in the same pickup position for the whole demo, so here's my attempt at showing what the guitar does from more of a Surf, Instrumental standpoint with no effects other than amp reverb. Hope you dig it or someone finds it useful.

Great video. I was thinking about a Classic Player Jazzmaster, but now I'm thinking that maybe I should find a Sidejack at the right price. My Eastwood Monolith has been a good guitar for me. I think the company churns out a fair product. I wonder how the tremolo on the Sidejack compares to the Jazzmaster?

Great demo. Need ... more ... .... GAS-X! Well done.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Nice sounds!

I've been looking hard at the Eastwood Airline Tuxedo model btw.

METEOR IV on reverbnation

Thanks everyone!
ChazSurf, I have an AVRI trem on my Original Senn JazzGuar and the Eastwood works and feels as good, kind of surprised me. I'm not usually a fan of Roller Bridges but this one works and sounds fine. I'll be using the guitar all week for promo shows for our new CD.
Las Barracudas, I had a Tuxedo that a friend talked me out of. It was a well built guitar that actually did capture some of those old Kay sounds.

Awesome! My Sidejack from the convention will be here this week so you've got me plenty stoked. Of course my ham fisted guitar sytlings won't be anything like your great demo, but one day...

I agree. It then becomes a demo of the pedal or amp instead of the guitar. Thanks for the proper demo. Thumbs Up

I also agree that flatwounds tend to enhance the tone of one's guitar. That's why I use them on Strats.

Cats 'n' Strats, 'cause that's how I roll - I eat reverb for breakfast!

Jeff, How was the setup on your DLX? Mine came with buzzing o-plenty up and down the fretboard and my bridge was jacked up super high at the low E side. I won the guitar from the convention so maybe guys were messing around with it there or it got jostled too much during shipping from LA to Winnipeg.

Some flatwound 11's stopped a lot of the buzz but my action starts getting pretty high about halfway up the fretboard so I'm in need of a serious setup.

I love the tone though and as for the rest of the guitar, the fit and finish are excellent (plus it's gorgeous!)

Pappa Surf,
The setup wasn't bad on mine when I got it direct from Eastwood but it did have a few high frets I had to take care of to set it up as good as could be.
I also had to pot my pickups as they were very microphonic but all's good now. While most of my Eastwood/Airline guitars played pretty good as delivered (I've owned about 6 or 7 in the last five years or so) I do feel that for any guitar in their price range, some extra set up work will be needed to maximize the instrument and for as affordable as some of their guitars are that's acceptable to me. I Love my Sidejack for our Surf/Instro stuff and I have an Airline Map that was very, very reliable on the road that I just put GFS Surf 90's in and it's fantastic. Probably do a demo with that soon.
Winnipeg eh? The Peg! Spent a lot of time there when touring Canada. Used to stay at the Fort Garry, Inn at the Forks, Drink at The Yellow Dog, Eat at the The Original Pancake House at the Forks

Wow Jeff! Most people have no idea where Winnipeg even is, let alone have been here. What band were you here with? Inn at the Forks hasn't been here that long so it must have been fairly recently.

Please be sure the PM me if you find youself heading up here again, I'd love to come out and catch your show and buy you a Fort Garry ale.

I played with country artist Paul Brandt for about 6 years. Had to quit about two years ago but came back to do last years winter tours.
Before that I had been through with other country artists, as a guitar tech, with Trisha Yearwood, Wynnona Judd etc.
Every once in a while I'll still do a show with him, so if I get up there again I'll be sure to get in touch.
