Beach boys reunion no more ? But good vibrations may now be a thing of the past. Just before the Grammy Museum celebration, Love and Johnston issued a press release announcing they would be hitting the road with their own incarnation of the Beach Boys. According to the tersely worded statement, "The post-50th anniversary configuration will not include Brian Wilson, Al Jardine and David Marks. The 50th Reunion Tour was designed to be a set tour with a beginning and an end to mark a special 50-year milestone for the band." A blindsided Wilson said, "I'm disappointed and can't understand why he (Love) doesn't want to tour with Al, David and me. We are out here having so much fun. After all, we are the real Beach Boys." The Brian Wilson-Mike Love version of the Beach Boys has just arrived in London for the final two dates of their reunion tour. If the splintered Beach Boy factions can't come to an agreement about their future, the September 28 concert at Wembley Stadium may be the last we see of this particular lineup. Wilson has said he'd like his next project to be a rock 'n' roll album. Right now, he doesn't know who he'll be working with on the record, but adds that he'd like it to be the Beach Boys. |

The way Brian's fans are very publicly and viciously attacking Mike, it may forever ruin whatever chance there was for them to keep working together. —This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got. |

In 1981 or was it 82? The Beach Boys did a huge memorial day concert at the Queen Mary in Long Beach. It was on live TV, the crowd was estimated at 500,000. I was a young on duty police officer and I was there. By virtue of my position I had an all access pass. My most vivid memory is how off key and out of tune the band sounded. Dennis was so drunk near the end we were joking about arresting him for drunk in public. It wasn't their best performance. One of the weakest concerts I had ever worked or seen and I've been to hundreds. June 2012 saw them in Irvine. Amazing. Absolutely the best concert I have ever attended. Why Mike Love wants to break up the good vibrations is a mystery to me. Especially in light of the fact that the other band members are willing to continue working together. I will not go see watered down version of the band. I'd be interested in hearing Love's reasoning for this. Last edited: Oct 01, 2012 09:37:50 |

In addition to their surf instro covers, The Beach Boys did a few original surf instro songs. |

Back to Mike Love, many of you have been to the HB Surf Museum may have noticed Pristine Porsche across the street. The owner Dick Thorpe told me that some years back a cap pulls up, a guy gets out and places his suitcase in red Ferrari Dick has for sale. He asks the guy if he can help him. The guy tells Dick he is there to buy the Ferrari and whips out his Americn Express card. Mike Love. Last edited: Oct 01, 2012 11:14:31 |

Cool! I recognize that 'Surf Jam' tune in HBkahuna's video. It's one of the theme songs in the 'Catch a Wave' radio show at KAOS, 89.3 FM in Olympia, WA hosted by Austin Potter 6-8 pm Pacific on Mondays. The opening theme is BB's 'Catch a Wave'. |

The penultimate night of the tour was at London's Royal Albert Hall where they played 2 sets totalling 2 hours 50 minutes. It was a brilliant show with around 60 songs! |

Mike finally has his say. It ends with Mike saying this, "And at the end of the song, I have an epiphany: The Beach Boys are bigger than those who created it. When all of us remaining founders have turned to dust, the band will live on in the hearts of those who relish the sounds of summer. So you see, summer’s never really gone. And neither are the Beach Boys." —This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got. Last edited: Oct 05, 2012 09:53:27 |

Very interesting! Thanks. I've only be following this peripherally, but it seems to make sense that he wanted to honor the commitment to the folks that had agreed to do the smaller shows with him, that did not include Wilson. |
