A new compilation coming out:

http://entertainment.kmart.com/surf-age-nuggets-various-artists/089353309824

I only link to Kmart because the page shows all of the songs. I have many of the songs on other compilations. I'm not sure that I would have picked all of the songs here - I can think of ones that I would rather see - but there are some very cool songs, too. I had forgotten about the Mosriters!

That is pretty cool,
It seems I have seen a lot of those songs on LP comps,
but to have a bunch on cd for easy play.
and for the good amount that are rare,
looks like a great package.

Definitely Not yer run of the mill Rhino best of surf.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

WOW!! A 4-CD set of super-rare 1st-wave track! Unbelievable! I already have the majority of these, but definitely looking forward to picking this up.

One thing, though: "One Pine Box" by The Royal Flairs is listed twice, on two different CDs - why? (This is the track that was mistakenely issued as "One Pink Box" - not quite the same image!)

Thanks so much, Tom, for bringing this to our attention!

Totally mandatory purchase. Looks like there's a ton of killer stuff on there.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

Wow, a new obscure surf compilation! I didn't think we'd see another one. Looks great!

...looks like the release date has been pushed back again. According to Rockbeat Records FB page, looks like Sept 25th.

Did find this excerpt and package cover that will have to please for now.

"Surf-Age Nuggets is housed in a large box which will also contain a book annotated by compilation producer Austin, the compilation includes instrumental classics from the period between 1959 and 1966. Though a complete track listing is not yet available, the box promises to include such trailblazing bands as Dick Dale & The Del-Tones, Bobby Fuller, The Velvetones, The Shan-Tones, The Valiants, The Ramrods, The Surf Teens, and The Royal Coachmen. Expect to hear plenty of twangy electric guitars and Fender bass, tremolo effects and reverb on this tour of the influential music that emerged from the Southern California scene as the 1960s began. RockBeat assures that many obscure tracks will appear on this set designed to reflect the period when "music, sport and teenage lifestyle came together and…the attitude that surfing has always been a rebel sport."

Hey JONPAUL, I wanted to send you a message about the magazine print, but it says your inbox is full. I did really like to have a copy of the tiki magazin issue with the comercial.

Better late than never for such a killer looking collection.

just got the press prof for "surf age nuggets" and it is, in a word, spectacular! 4 CDs, 60 page book and will be shocked if we don't garnera couple of Grammy Awards. Available Nov. 13....finally

somebody has wayyyy too much faith in the grammys, unless a joke isn't finding it's way through text

Storm Surge of Reverb: Surf & Instro Radio

The folks over at Rockbeat are quite savvy. I believe their Grammy reference had more to do with "Craft" awards than Genre-Specific. For instance, a nod in the "Best Recording Package," "Best Boxed or Limited Edition Package," or "Best Album Notes" categories wouldn't be out of the question.

Not yet--I'm anxiously awaiting it's arrival!

Jeff, Amazon lists the official release date as November 13th. Better hold on to your wallet, though, as the price is listed as $58!
