El Ray - is it really a misspelling of El Rey? I figured it was a reference to El Ray of the Sun, or el raygun or maybe los raybans, not el ray de tablistas (de recuerdo inmortal Doltonense y Trashmeniaco). |

Tuck, they're named after a Satan's Pilgrims track (from their debut album) - see below. Maybe Ted can tell us the source of the name, but I always thought it was just a joke take-off on El Rey. Ivan |

Should have got that! It's a terrible thing when you have to remember the names of songs without the help of the lyrics, um, Ivan. |

we were told by the band that 'el ray' was written on a box of oranges — |

Really? They actually covered SP's El Ray early on, so I figured that must be the tie-in. Oh well... —Ivan |

Everybody's lost in LA. Isn't there a song about that? Thanks! I will keep that in mind. Until recently I didn't have a cellphone. I still forget you can reach out and get unlost with it. I think of it as something that goes off suddenly in your pocket when you are trying to do something else. My daughters are trying to teach me to use the GPS thing in it. "Turn left in 100 feet. No, no! Left, you idiot, left! Gaah! ... Oh, sorry, I thought we were on the frontage road." Last edited: Sep 01, 2012 21:30:49 |

I actually came from Westminster via Huntington Beach where there's a Middle Eastern restaurant I've eaten in before, and I tried to come up the PCH via Long Beach, but, no, it's not a particularly great shortcut. It's more like getting lost trying to connect with the 605. If I'm going to get lost I like to do it in a neighborhood full of warehouses, parked semis, and seedy bars. In my shortcut's favor it is faster than having a flat tire. |

It's Swahili for "crocodile," from the Arabic "ir ray" a "crock of something or other, maybe cheese." |

Oh yes indeed. When we talked about starting the band, El Firetone, presented the name and we loved it. The Satan's Pilgrims cover came right after. Amazing song by the Pilgrims. But as I recently told Jeff after some misspelling of el rey/el ray before the Cali-tour: Although we're kings we're also your regular dude Ray —El Twitter Last edited: Sep 04, 2012 13:47:45 |
