They all sound good! I still like the Continental the best though.

Love the sound of those Vox organs! Could listen to this all day, I can picture Jim rockin out on the Sullivan show with those cool leather pants! Last edited: Sep 03, 2012 20:12:58 |

I believe Ray Manzarek played a Gibson combo organ, along with a piano bass (not sure if it was Gibson, as well...couldn't find anything on a search except Fender), as The Doors didn't have a bass guitar player. This was back in the days when I big time act, such as The Doors, would be completely outfitted by an instrument manufacturer seeking advertising via product placement. The Music Machine was similarly outfitted by VOX. —Fast Cars & Loud Guitars! |

Manzarek used a Vox Continental on the first two Doors albums. He switched over to the Gibson, which I don't think it sounds as good, because Vox quality went down after '67. The piano bass was a Fender Rhoades model. —https://www.facebook.com/coffindagger Last edited: Sep 04, 2012 14:39:55 |

I'm not a piano player, but I can't imagine how he keeps the rhythmn of the bass going on with one hand, then soloing with the other... |

Very cool! I kinda' like the sound of the Corinthian; it seems a bit nastier than the rest. I LOVE that you can hear the loose keys on the Jaguar (and any Italian Vox owner knows what I'm talking about!). Interesting that there are no Continental II's or Super Continentals in the mix (then again, the Super I used to own seemed to short out a tonebank every time you looked at it, so maybe there's a good reason for their absence here). I'm such an organ nerd, that I'd like to see this same guy tackle a comparison of all the organs based on the GEM Model P, which includes the Vox Jaguar, Doric, Ekosonic, the Baldwin Howard combo (with its' supremely trashy sound) and the legendary Thomas P-350, otherwise known as a Jaguar in blue drag. Six organs that all share the same basic chassis and circuits, but have enough individual tweaks and adjustments to make one quite distinct from the other. Now That'd be cool. --Crispy |

I have a Super Continental that has never failed once since I've had it, and we've taken it on the road several times, and it's Italian made. I also have a British wooden key continental, it sounds great but the damn B is always going out (looking into changing the oscillator card all together, if I can find one). They're luck of the draw really, like anything else sometimes you get a good one, sometimes you get a dud. The Gem model P is a great undiscovered combo organ, and you can find them very cheap too. —https://www.facebook.com/coffindagger |
