Hello all,
Please excuse my ignorance for not knowing this. I think I saw on here that one of our members as associated with the Mighty Surf Lords. I watched a video of them playing Banzai Washout over at Youtube. The young guy on the blue jaguar was really impressive. For any of you who have not seen this, here is the link.
the Mighty Surf Loard - Banzai Washout at Billy Blast-off Scanlan's 50th birthday
Its great to see someone without gray hair playing surf. Another generation of great surf guitarists.
Anyway, I just wanted to compliment a fine performance.
Talk to you later,
Norm

Great day for sure,
how many bands played there?
6, 8? I forget,
great Mexican food n Beers provided by Billy Blast off too.
As for the Guitaritst in the video,
I'm sure he has some grey hairs, just hard to see in daylight,
and under that Hat. sorry Billy
and that was a Jazzmaster, not a Jaguar.

Sweet! The line-up that day for my 50th was "Point Doom", "Mighty Surf Lords", "Surf Rockets", John Blair and The Trespassers", "Slacktone", "Insect Surfers", and then an open jam with Paul Johnson for the finale. Good times! One of the last few gigs I got to share with Baja Marty.

Hello again,
I stand corrected. That is a Jazzmaster. I did not even notice that when I watched the video that night. Still mighty impressive playing.
Good to see younger players. I'm 62. Most of the guys I know who play surf are older than I. I find it comforting to see good players younger coming along. They are the ones who will draw in the next generation of surf guitarists. Surf has been around for over 50 years. But it takes some good players to come along every 10 years or so to keep it going.
Talk to you later,

I want to compliment you on that video and all the others you have posted at Youtube. I have spent hours listening to your videos.
There is no way I can travel to California any time soon to catch some of the concerts in person. (Family obligations keep me tied to the house pretty much 24/7). For guys like me, it is great to get to see these bands playing live. I have always thought the beauty of surf comes across better in the life performances. You get a better sense of the raw power of the guitar than from a polished studio session.
Just wanted to let you know there are guys out there who really appreciate all you do.
Talk to you later,
Norm

Thanks Norm for the compliments! That was a very fun day in Simi Valley!
As far as gray hairs, lol, yes I have them, mostly growing out of my ears, and I wish I was still young, but keeping my young thoughts & ways of living helps to keep me looking young.
Here's a video you might enjoy from my 50th Birthday Party here in Reno.
