Hard core Man or Astro Man? tonight at Jack Rabbits. Amazing to see them a mile from the house in my favorite pub. No vocals. Very loud surf punk tunes on Hallmark Guitars, all at 170 bps. I enjoyed it...but anyone one of us with a fast hand and MXR distort pedal could have done this loud distorted set tonight. New girl playing rhythm on a swept wing. Said she loved the guitar.

When I was in Jr High I took part in playing classical symphonies. I had the ability to play the notes as written. This doesn't mean I had the vision to create such memorable pieces. The vision is what sets different musicians apart.

the same is true with a lot of artwork. how often do you hear 'i could do that'? maybe so, but did you come up with it?

Yeah!! This is a nice and great comment!
I also like the tenthousand funny things MOAM realized in the last years (decades?). They did of course Vinyl, special colored vinyls, a lot of 7inches, a 5inch! (I love it!), and they did even flexis! Not to forget what mom_surfing mentioned, the artwork on their releases! One of my most beloved 7inches is the one where you can build a UFO out of the cover! (Anyone built it??????) ...and so on! And the stage of them is always full of funny space/computer stuff! There is a lot of work and energy behind.
The point of creativity is to DO things. Nice thoughts!
Keep going sisters and brothers in reverb!

I agree with all the comments. I was expecting a little more variation was my point. I really did enjoy it. There actually was one tune with vocals. But, this was a full on punk show...in the middle of which the drummer came forward to the mic and told the mosh pit to stop, "so everyone could enjoy the show." There was also just a little the MOAM? experience ...in terms of space talk intros, wacky light show etc. The lightening machine was rolled out at the very end of the show when the music was over and turned on for about a minute. Anyway...

Bill, you have a point about a MOAM? show. It is exactly that...a punk show. While the surf influence is still there, the days of them being a 'surf' band were almost completely gone by 1996. But, this really is what solidified their place in history. Going back and listening to their first few records, they realy would have been long forgotten if they would have stuck with the straight surf melodies.

This is one of those bands that comes off way heavier live than on recording,
and you lose some of the nuances of the recordings.
Same with Daikaiju

I once went to see MOAM here in Germany in 1999 and be assured, I am a MOAM fanboy. But live it took like 30 seconds for each song until I could tell which song they were playing. The sound was terrible. But I wasn't disappointed at all though. The show still was amazing!
I recognized a new pedal on Starcrunchs board (between VP Jr. and the MicroSynth - turned by 90°). Do you have more close up pics or does anyone have a clue what it is?

If the most recent video Daikaiju posted is any sign, it looks like the new material they recorded managed to capture their more raw/agressive live feel.

Yep. They rock hard live, and they are pulling heavily from Project Infinity and Experiment Zero (my personal favorites). I think they sound very true to those two albums.
Looks like the Hallmarks are proving to be good workhorses for Starcrunch, from all the recent photos and videos.
