Anyone used a isolation box when recording? Did it effect the sound and in any way? Is there anything special to have in mind when recording with a isolation box?

I did this once when i recorded two amps in parallel. so one gets its signal directy, the other one via the isobox. it´s plug and play. nothing to think about.
if you don´t have hum issues you won´t need and isobox at all.
it could affect the tone if its transformers don´t keep the high impedance of the guitar signal, but most isoboxes like Lehles do!

I think he's talking about an isolation speaker box, where your cab goes in and sound doesn't come out except into a mic.

iso boxes, attenuators, and resistive load boxes (Palmer) all solve the problem of having a loud amp cranked to get the power tubes cooking, but each presents a slight tradeoff on the sound vs. your cab with a mic on it cranked.

However, in most cases, you're using one of these tools because you can't crank the amp. If you can try it out before buying, see if you like it.

I went down the route of a speaker attenuator for my Bandmaster combo below, the Dr. Z Brake Lite. screws into the side of the cab, and lets me reduce how many watts to to the speakers for smaller rooms, or before crowd shows up. Works for me, YMMV.

Dr. Z MAZ 18 Jr. + 1x12 Cab
Various Telecasters and noise-making pedals
Farfisa Compact Duo

let´s see what he really meant:
I would consider iso box = isolates signal paths.
and iso cab = closed speaker cab.

Hi!
Thanks for answering! Sorry for not being clear enough.
What I´m thinking of is a iso box/cab like neodrama described.
I´m recording at my rehersal place, and thats why I think that would work best for me. And because I don´t want to disturb the neighbours too much.

I´ll try to build a cab myself in a couple of weeks. Shock
