Not really surf-related, but so bizarre on several levels that I couldn't resist posting it here.

This technology dates back to the late eighties. Jimmy Page had/has a Les Paul with this TransPerformance system built into it. The cool thing about it is that you can preset several different tunings into the system, and at a touch of button it'll tune the guitar to that tuning. I believe Page used a guitar modded with this system on Kashmir for that early-nineties Page/Plant "Unledded" performance, with the London Philharmonic and the Egyptian orchestras (those guys were amazing!!).

Didn't Jimmy Page have some contraption like that on his gold Les Paul during the Page & Plant tours? It could instantly switch between the various tunings he would use.

Ever heard the Live Yardbirds album recorded at The Anderson Theatre, which includes a long stretch in which Page loudly re-tunes his guitar, prompting Keith Relf to explain the process to the audience?
I bet Page wanted to avoid another spectacle like that, hence his investment in such technology.

For those of us who collected Zeppelin boots, you know that Jimmy needed all the help he could get with tuning as the 70s progressed, along with his heroin use
