Andrew, glad to hear you like it so much! Jeff, thanks VERY MUCH for spreading the word! That's awesome. And thanks to Mystery Man Jamie Galatas and Noel Squitieri for the really nice comments on the BNS Feedback page! I'd once again encourage people to check out all the nice comments left on there so far, and see if you're inspired to leave a few words of your own. And if anybody wants to leave some comments on Amazon and iTunes for the comp, we'd greatly appreciate it, too! Thanks, all! So glad to hear you're enjoying the comp. Perhaps even more than the CD if for no other reason that there is more music, this collection of performances shows how much surf music has spread in different directions as musicians continuously incorporate new musical influences, adding to the sound of surf. This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got. |

Brave New Surf made it to #6 in KALX's (UC Berkeley and my local station) weekly album chart. If any of you have a local station you think should have a copy, send an email or PM to Sean or myself. —Danny Snyder Playing keys and guitar with Combo Tezeta Formerly a guitarist in The TomorrowMen and Meshugga Beach Party Latest surf project - Now That's What I Call SURF |

Just heard the LosTwangMarvels while driving to San Francisco this morning on KALX, man they're really digging this album. —Danny Snyder Playing keys and guitar with Combo Tezeta Formerly a guitarist in The TomorrowMen and Meshugga Beach Party Latest surf project - Now That's What I Call SURF |

This got me thinking about the successful BNS Kickstarter campaign not too long ago. Good updates, Danny on the local radio play. Any other updates/outcomes from the project? It'd be neat to see a list of the radio stations, media outlets and whatnot that got exposure to BNS thanks to the Kickstarter effort. I think the reach was pretty significant, no? —Fady El Mirage @ ReverbNation |

Brave New Surf was a great project and it was really cool to work with all of the participating bands, as well as folks like Ivan, Ferenc, Danny and everyone else that helped with the release of the comp. While it has received rave reviews from the surf/instro community of fans, radio stations and websites, we really haven't been able to break into the mainstream with it, which was one of our primary goals. We sent out more promos and did more advertising with this release than any other in our history, but quite frankly, we really didn't get through to many new fans, nor has it received much radio play or press in mainstream or indie publications (to my knowledge). I would still call the project a success though. While the radio play, press and sales have been underwhelming, I am extremely proud of the release. I think it's something that people will still be listening to 10-20 years from now, just like I still listen to all of those great mid-90's surf comps. We're not done promoting this release though. I'll still send out promos to new radio stations, podcasts and magazines. I'm always on the lookout for places that may give our music a listen, and then hopefully play it on their shows or write about it. —Sean Surf CD's / Vinyl / Fanzines / DVD's |

I just ordered a copy of Brave New Surf. Why?... To hear the variety of surf music that people are laying down today, to support the groups, and to support the cause. |

I have now bought albums by the tomorrowmen, the thunderchiefs, el ray, los twang marvels, the aqualads, and the madeira as a direct result of Brave New Surf. Coffin daggers, el supernaut, and frankie and the poolboys are next on my wish list. I have turned many friends onto "brave new surf" and I'm sure they will follow the same pattern. Its just a process that takes time. —The Techtonics reverb nation page |

Thanks guys! Yes, there have been others that have said they would be buying CD's and vinyl from the bands on the BNS compilation. I tried my best to stock as many of them as possible in our shop, and in cases where I couldn't get them, I've given out contact info for the bands and their labels. There's no doubt that everyone involved has benefited a bit from increased sales and exposure as a result of the CD, we just though the impact would have been greater... —Sean Surf CD's / Vinyl / Fanzines / DVD's |

This comp is really magnificent. Were it not for the fact that I already own 90% of the releases, I would have bought them in a heartbeat. I will, however, fill in the blanks with other releases from these bands to try and keep that ball rolling. —

Totally random question: Have you sent a copy to Rodney Bingenheimer? He's still playing stuff as eclectic as ever. I think the majority of new music I've bought in the last 5 years has been as a result of hearing it on his show. Maybe slip in a SG-101 convention flyer... According to his MySpace page:

Just a random thought that occurred to me, any copies or info on BNS sent to any of the many Hot Rod mags? I know quite a few do have a small section in em for music reviews and sometimes (like in the case of Car Kulture Deluxe) do full articles focusing on a certain band. I know it's not total guarantee, but definitely a good source of exposure. —-Damon. |
