Hi All
Slightly embaressed to ask this but how do I remove the trem arm from the Jag? Its been in since ive had it (about a year and a half as it sits in the case with the arm in) but im having it set up shortly and will ask the guys to put a slight kink in the arm so that it doesnt flop around. Is it a push in type? I guess it is as nothing happens when I spin the arm around. Im just reluctant to pull too hard on it in case I damage anything.
Cheers

Nigel, you're not the first person I know of who cases his offset with the tremolo arm inserted, but I've always been told it's a bad idea. I have a Fender-brand hard case and there's no room to close it on the arm.
I'd set the trem lock botton (assuming it locks the trem plate) and give the tremolo arm a firm yank straight up.

Yeah, its a push in type. Google images search "jaguar tremolo assembly" and you can look at it and see how it is pieced together.
I've owned a lot of Jags/Jazzmasters and have never took the arms out when I put them in cases.

Thanks guys. Honestly, im pulling really hard and its just not shifting, thats with the slider in both locked and unlocked position. Any ideas? Ive got buzzing on the top two strings which is why im taking it in but im worried the guys wont know much about jags and I cant even get the arm out myself.
Cheers.
BTW Noel, the case it came with is a G and G which has a soft lid but it does push the arm down a fair bit on closing.

Hmmm, I wonder if its not a vintage-type trem, but some other thing thats threaded in? (If its a pull-out type arm, then if you turn it around ad-infinitum ad-nauseum, it will stay in place)

Hi tubeswell
The guys pulled the arm out but it was quite a struggle. It is the push in type and not threaded. Maybe a year of putting the guitar in the case with the arm in affected the end of the arm or something and it didnt want to come out. I remove the arm every time now.

Surfocaster, just for your consideration, maybe it's not such a good idea. Installing/removing the arm repeatedly may weaken the collet, you already saw how much pressure it takes, as it sits very tight, but the collet teeth are fragile. This CLACK! is a bit scary, as you witnessed. On the other side, I see no harm in leaving it in all the time.
Simple mechanical logic - more movement/change of pressure - more weakening of the material.

I certainly will consider that. its a toss up between caseing it or leaving it at the mercy of two small children and two cats!!

Also yup. I've been thinking a lot about it. But I still have no idea how anyone can close a hard case on a Jag's/JM's installed tremolo arm. Have you cut out the padding to make a slot for it or do you use a custom case that has a cutout already?

The StayTrem is awesome. Came stock on my Johnny Marr Jaguar.
FWIW, I pull the arm every time I case it up.
