Haven't had time to watch this yet; someone just brought it to my attention via email.

I watched it, fairly good in a very beginner way.
I knew everything he talked about, and he left out a few things,
or bands that I would have mentioned (The Halibuts in the 80s wave).
worth a watch, especially for people just getting into surf.

When the teacher started out by answering a question with "surf musicians never really surfed, just Dick Dale, and only one member of the the Beach Boys", I thought o.k. here we go...
Then, when he started talking about the first wave, and the role of Fender in surf music, the teacher mentioned that a big part of the sound was the Fender Reverb "pedal". He may have just misspoke, because later he calls it a "unit"---but then they cut to a picture of the Boss FRV-1 '63 pedal. 
Alright though..I don't want to seem nit-pickey.
I enjoyed the interviews with two members of the Tornadoes and then with John Blair, covering the 1st and 2nd waves respectively. Susan Surftone covers the current wave, but doesn't give any real useful info on the current scene. She does give a brief shout out to Pollo Del Mar as a current band she likes. The show really short changes the current scene, which is a shame, since it is so active and diverse. The teacher spends a lot of time throughout talking about the importance of "Pulp Fiction" in the revival of surf music.
He then ends up advising the students to learn more by getting into the Ventures, DD and Link Wray (whom he considers a forerunner,) and to use the internet to explore.
I salute anyone who would even do this much to turn young people on to surf music. I can't help seeing the holes and missed opportunities and how a little more prep and organization could have made this long presentation better. But at least if someone's interest is piqued after watching this, their curiosity could lead them to do more digging on their own.

BTD, you are plugged in down there...have you ever heard of the Black Widows? They close out the show with them. Are they considered surf?

I know of the Black Widows,
have seen their 3 different line ups over the last 15 plus years.
sad when they went away for awhile.
They have played on many surf bills, and at the surf museum.
But I wouldn't call them a surf band per say.
More of a Garage Rock instro band.
but great players, and great energy.
Leader Tony has sat in with the Insect Surfers quite a few times,
when the Insects needed somebody for a show.
and he does great with them.
Not sure how they would do, playing trad surf.
Their spaghetti-ish songs are cool.

So I'm not really nitpicking this either because I think it's great that there's even some type of attempt and that they included some true surf musicians especially.
But how is Lonnie Mack considered a pre-cursor to Surf when his hits came out in '63? Am I missing something because I very well may be. Is he considered a fore-runner of surf in the same way as Link Wray?
