03.11 (tentative) 11PM Jetsetter Lounge Lake Worth
It is a little too early to say for sure (consider me "tentative" too)...but I might be down in your neck of the woods of this one.
OK Jet... This show is now confirmed... but it's on March 10th... I was thinking March 11th because that's when the time change is... The Intoxicators! played a marathon show at the Jetsetter last spring when the time changed... We started at 11PM and the sun was up by the time that we got to our hotel the next morning...
So that's why we picked that weekend for a show... It should be a blast so come on down...
If you can't make it then though we have signed on for Hukilau 2007 (June 14-17) in Ft. Lauderdale, and Drive Invasion 2007 (Sept 1st & 2nd) in Atlanta...
Cheers!

It is a good chance I will be in Florida on that date...but a few things have to fall into place first. If I get down there, I'll be headquartered out of Naples...but I am sure I can find a way to get across the state for a maraton surf-session!

Wow... I sent an e-mail out last week to the owner of Cabo's Tacos in Tallahassee letting him know about the Dick Dale shows in Florida... everywhere but Tallahassee...
Mike (the owner) is a big Dick Dale fan...
and Cabo's Tacos is right across the street from a huge club called The Moon...
Anyway... guess some talking happened... and
Dick Dale just added a show in Tallahassee, FL for this Saturday, February 10th...
So if you are in the neighborhood come check him out...
He's playing at The Moon...
and ticket prices are super super cheap!!! and in some cases free...
That's right free!!!!
from the club's website it looks like the first 100 people get in free...
here's what is says (from http://www.moonevents.com)
The first 100 admitted FREE
FSU Students $5
Others $10
Show time: 8:00 pm
Oh... Since ticket prices are so cheap you should go spend some money across the street at Cabo's Tacos...
Cheers!

I don't know of anything happening in that area yet...
The two clubs, that I know about over there that might have something surfish are Coasters in Ft. Walton, and Seville Quarter in Pensacola...
Cheers!

You should really, really, no...really make pans to head down to Ft Lauderdae between June 14th through the 17th for The Hukilau. Clouseaux, The Intoxicators!, The Disasternauts, The Haole/Wholly Cats...plenty more. It's gonna be a tiki/polynesian/surf extravaganza!

hey Fez,
I was at the show in Gainsville yesterday. I had a good time, but you know sometimes I wish Dick would just play some freaking surf music
His schtick is entertaining and I always enjoy his shows, but man, I wish he'd just stick to the guitars
I will try and post some of my pics this weekend.

Hey Waimea,
I hear what you are saying.
But we've had this discussion here before.
as much as we'd like to hear/see him do more surf.
You gotta remember, he's doin this for a living. and if he did a strickly surf show, his shows wouldn't have as many people.
and getting people in the seats means more money.
So hes gotta appeal to a bigger general audience.
Plus hes always done Variety shows like this, its nothing new.
But I'm with you, more surf DD.

DD's one of a kind... that's for sure...
I saw him about 10 years ago and remember lots more guitar at that show...
I love it that he is at a point that he does whatever the hell he wants to...
(which can be a positive... or a negative depending on how you look at it...) He loves to rant and pass on his knowledge and opinions about anything and everything... and brag about his son...
Oh... he even answers his own e-mail...
All that and he'll be 70 in 3 months!!!!
That's pretty cool in my book...
The non vocal surf stuff that I remember from the show was...
Taco Wagon, Miserlou, Hava Nagila, Riders In The Sky, The Wedge...
there were one or two more... but I can't remember their titles...

pretty much the same here, accept he did a misourlo/temple of gizah mix which was really cool. He stumbled on a few runs here and there but his tone sounded freaking awesome. He had a fixation with john cash at my show, which i have never seen before. He sang reign of fire which sounded good, and one other cash song I forget the name of. Anyway good time, but I don't think doing an all out surf show would turn people away.
When I was walking out I overheard a few folks chatting asking why he didn't play lets go tripping or any of the surf songs. So there are defiently some people who go see him expecting that stuff and get a rude awakening.

Here's some photos from the Southern Culture On The Skids show in Tallahassee, FL....
They played more instro tunes than I've seen in the past couple of years... They played SkullBucket, The Wet Spot, Meximelt (with Miserlou tucked in the middle of it), Jack The Ripper, Rawhide, and Rumble...
A really nice set...

This weekend is the perfect weekend for a Florida surf/tiki road trip...
Check out The Haole Kats on Friday at The Mai Kai in Ft Lauderdale... (from 6pm - 10ish pm) The Mai Kai is the most amazing tiki landmark in Florida... It's worth the trip just to see the place... Having the Haole Kats there is like having reverb on your twang... or icing on your cake... or something like that...
On Saturday check out The Intoxicators! in Lake Worth at The Jetsetter Lounge. (from 11pm - ?) The Intoxicators! are going to make you lose an hour in style by celebrating the US government's new time change with a surf party at The Jetsetter Lounge... Who knows the show may make it all the way to the 5AM hour again... It did last year!
Plus they've got some big Moai statues in their tiki garden...
On Sunday check out The NovaRays at Ron Jon Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach. (from noon - 4) What more can I say... surf in a touristy surf shop... Can't get any better than that... That's like reverb in Disneyreverb or something...
Cheers!
