Short story: 12 years ago I bought this amp from someone for ~$300.00
He bought it a long time ago from another guy. I simply replaced the tubes and played it for some years, until I decided it was time to move on...

As you can see on the pictures it's a 70s Quad Reverb (I guess - would be thankful if someone could specify the date). One of the previous owners stuffed that poor amp into a flight case and removed 2 speakers. Plus there are something like send/return jacks on the back and I think the power cord has been placed on the left side. Playing a noisy Vibrolux Custom I decided that it is about time to make this old amp shine again and this is the result:

I really dig the new look. The sound is also sweet and very surfy (only tried at home right now - got to try it at the practice room). So here's my question: Which speakers should I get for this baby? It's a 100Watts amp and on the back it says 'total load 4 ohms'. There are 2 Celestion G12-30 inside at the moment (both 8 ohms). Is this correct to operate the amp, or has someone changed it? Which speakers should I get, keeping in mind that I am located in the EU (bye bye Webers). Thanks in advance and thanks for reading.

My friend has the same (with 4 speakers tough) and he loaded it with Eminence Texas Heat : sound great and quite close to the original tone.
Or you can also condsider Jensen P12N.

He no longer uses it for gigs but it sure was some heavy shit... (not so heavy than my showman 2x15" cab tough :-D)

Not yet, but thanks for the link. Another funny story: as mentioned above, I have this amp for ~12 years and played it a couple of years. But 2 months ago I discovered that the Master Volume has a push/pull function  can you imagine this. I've been staring at this amp for over a decade...embarrassing. (the reverb gets cut when you pull it so it's not an option)
Can I put in the Jensen P12N? Seem to be 50W speakers?! Pleae excuse my stupid questions, but this is all wizardry to me. I'm a player.

That's right, it's a gain boost. I used it when I had the Dual Showman but I can't remember that it cut the reverb (I have an external reverb).

Depends on what you want it to sound like, lower wattage speaker will likely break up at a lower volume, higher will likely stay clean at higher volumes. Just really depends on what you're after. Me, I'd go for the clean tone and hunt down a pair of JBL D120's or good vintage EV's. Would weigh a ton, but sound killer IMHO. 
BTW, it looks great in the new cab.

Thanks for the reply. I want this amp to keep its clean surf sound. The Vibrolux is just fine for the crunchy sound (I'll have that amp fixed regarding the static hiss). But the Quad is a nice 100W amp that can handle the loud clean sound.
The JBL D120 you mentioned are hard to find, right? The only pair I could find was on Ebay

Yeah, unfortunately all of my fav speakers are hard to get. However, I just bought an Eminence Beta 12A for use in my Ampeg SB12 Portaflex bass cab. And it sounds great!! I am only playing bass in the studio with it as it's a 25watt head. The speaker is rated for 250 watts, 500 peak. The freq. response may be a little low for a guitar amp. There's supposed to be some good replacements for discontinued JBL's from Beyma. I have not tried any of these and really can't speak for them, but you can find a bunch of options listed at: http://www.usspeaker.com/homepage.htm

One more question. I've got 2 Celestion speakers in there with 8ohm impedance each. On the back of the amp it says 'total load 4 ohms'.
If I got this right, 2 speakers running through a parallel connection will add up to 4ohms, which should be the correct impedance for this amp. Would one of you guys be as kind as to check if the speakers are connected in the right way? Here's a picture:

I think the previous owner connected them in a serial connection, which works, but also kills the amp/speakers. What should I do?

Thanks for your reply! So this is a serial setup at the moment, right? Which adds up to 16ohms. And I need a parallel setup in order to get the 1/((1/8)+(1/8)). Yay, I can do this. Hopefully noone changed the impedance requirement of the amp...

Yep that's in series (16R load). Seeing as how its a tube output stage, it'll have more power when the load is properly matched. (works different to a transistor output stage in this regard)
