Breaking Bad is one of my top 5 all time favorite shows, I only wish they'd hurry up and release Season 4 on Netflix.

Just finished the last season of "The Wire". A gritty cop drama about the war on drugs set in Baltimore. Awesome series. Most people probably won't know about this one, but a really excellent Canadian-made mini-series call "Pillars of the Earth" Here is a synopsis: "The Pillars of the Earth is set against a backdrop of war, religious strife and power struggles which tears lives and families apart. In that time, there rises a magnificent Cathedral in Kingsbridge. Against the backdrop, love-stories entwine: Tom, the master builder, Aliena, the noblewoman, the sadistic Lord William, Philip, the prior of Kingsbridge, Jack, the artist in stone work and Ellen, the woman from the forest who casts a curse. At once, this is a sensuous and enduring love story and an epic that shines with the fierce spirit of a passionate age. Follett masterfully weaves these stories through political turmoil of 12th century England, creating a relevant and viable world for today's audience and for generations to come." I am about to watch The Wicker Tree. It is the long awaited followup to the classic 70's horror film, The Wicker Man. My expectations are low. It is nearly impossible to follow up such a great film.

Caught a matinee showing of "Lockout" a few days ago and found it to be a very entertaining low budget action/sci-fi popcorn movie, even though the plot was stolen from John Carpenter's, Escape from N.Y. There were other sub-plots, but the main story involves rescuing the presidents daughter from an orbiting space station prison overtaken by by the prisoners. Guy Pearce steals the show with lots of sarcastic one-liners as the effects and visuals are neither mind-blowing or crappy. The Ravonettes even supply the song Beat City for the closing credits. |

Archer might just be the best show on television, certainly the best written. It is vulgar, every kind of offensive, but it is so smartly written. |
That's a seriously dark and messed up movie. Not a fun Friday night in front of the telly... I knew the guy blows his brains out at the end, but man, pretty much the whole thing was pretty intense and even disturbing. I must applaud the movie-makers attention to detail, though. As far as I could tell, every instrument and amplifier used was exactly correct (for example, they have Blackmore playing a cherry red ES-335, exactly like the one he played back then; the Tornadoes guys have the right guitars, Alan Caddy and George Bellamy both on Gretsches; there are cool Vox amps all over the place, a Clavioline, even a Binson Echorec tape echo unit, etc.). That was impressive. But if I had known what I know now before the movie, I would have skipped it.
