I like Garage, I like Surf and sometimes I like Metal (especially kind of Death Angel, Overkill, old Anthrax and so on...) But your example is JUST metal. And it doesn`t keeps my attention very much... I know your thoughts about mixing genres. There are always interesting band outside who are working with Surf guitar sounds (never forget Dead Kennedys with their guitar player East Bay Ray. He always had a kind of surf sound!) I agree Two Wounded Birds is, without doubt, more surf/instro/punk style. But, since I'm not a musician(but definitely a music fanatic)I am not quite so analytical. The most exciting music, for me, is a blending of energetic guitar styles---and sometimes lyrics... but only sometimes! To my amateur ear, Metal 60'an has elements of all these genres. But it all comes down to personal taste.
