Also Noah, they can be different scale lengths. Generally bass vi's are 30" and baritones can be anywhere from 27-30". —The Squares - 1995-2002 |

One is low, the other is REAL low. For me the baritone is more practical, occupying the sonic space between a guitar and bass. The bass vi is in the same range as the bass but offers a tonal difference. It is also great for guitarists wanting to play a bass with similar feel to guitar. Bass vi can be used to double bass or guitar parts or give you a really cool low melody that might just muddy up on bass. In my previous band, I only played the baritone as the guitarist and bassist were already filling up so much space on their instruments. —The Squares - 1995-2002 |

I am with Calacas on this one. I converted my Danelectro six string bass to baritone last year. It is really fun. But I am definitely going back to the bass VI mode. I could hardly put that thing down in that tuning. — |

Bass VI's (and sometimes Baritones) were often used to double Upright Basses to add a percussive edge (Roy Orbison, Patsy Cline, Elvis, ect). This is where they earned the moniker "Tic Tac Bass". That Eastwood looks very tempting. There's also been some really interesting alternative VI players over the years, such as Robert Smith from The Cure & Peter Hook from New Order. Just shows what a broad scope the instrument has. |

I love my Danelectro Baritone & would dearly love to have a nice Bass VI to experiment with as well. It can have such as massive sound for instro stuff, such as Glen Campbell's Fender Bass VI solos on Galveston & Witcheta Lineman (funnily enough, he didn't even own the instrument; it was Carol Kaye's!!).
