Practice songs FASTER than you would normally play them, then when you play them at the proper tempo you'll be more relaxed.
I play along with records at 45rpm instead of 33.

The opposite also works really well. Try playing a song you play without problems REALLY SLOW with the metronome, a drum machine or someone else: it´s amazing how difficult that can be sometimes. It´s one of the principles behind "soft" martial arts like Tai Chi: you learn slow first so you are aware of absolutely everything involved in the motion, and the move comes out without councious thought or effort (that is, you save energy) in "proper" speed. —http://www.myspace.com/cochabambas |

doesn't the pitch get all wacked out...in other words, are you playing up the neck in a new key? also, have you ever tried 78 rpm yet? you could do a sort of "chipmunk surf", which , i think, would sound pretty cool.... -dp |

lol, that was supposed to be a joke, I forgot to put the little winking smilie in there. Some Duane Eddy songs actually sound pretty cool at 45rpm, Bali Hai for one. |
