Permalink Fender Performer does surf!

New Topic

well I received my new guitar yesterday so thought I'd do a quick video showing the tone using the coil split for surf.
amp is a Kustom Defender 50 tube amp, tone settings are just over 5 on all.
bright switch is off.
fender tank is 6, 6, 5
I'd have no problem using this guitar for surf except...
the pickup placement is throwing me off with double picking and some sweeps/ rakes.
I'll get used to it though.

That sounds pretty surfy to me!

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

sounds good to me! nice guitar! i barely remember seeing a pix of one in the fender book, never seen a real one or heard one before. NICE! Thumbs Up

Enjoying the surf,sun and sand!!

thanks guys!
and zzero, I bought one in the 90's because it was pretty cheap.
being into grunge back then, I just couldn't get over how it looked..
if ya ever find one, grab it!!!
not only are they great players, they are rare and the price keeps going up.

One could probably surf with a thrift store toy acoustic with a sound hole pickup.

I do quite enjoy the guitar! How does it sound in non-coil tapping mode? There are some awful humbuckers out there and there are some really great ones, just like anything else I guess.

haven't done much with the humbuckers.
they sound loud but dull to me when clean.
humbuckers to me are best distorted.
I'll try'n get a video up with just the buckers.

Surfy for sure and I actually like the shape, never seen one in person.

Gr8 investment Bubbles. Enjoy.

i love cheap guitars!! Thumbs Up was the performer a good one for grunge??

keep us informed

didn't like it for grunge back then. not so much the sound, but the look.
it was just a spacey looking thing to me then and I had no real use for a vibrato. now looking back on it, I should have just put it away for a rainy day. the first one I had was sunburst and had a 1" or better chip outta the paint near the rear strap button.
owning it was like owning your first car, got it at a good price but just didn't like it. years later you see it worth a lot more money than you paid for it and you also now see the "charm" it had.
I paid $1,095 for this new one... still less than my jap Mosrite cost.

Nice tone!

Just spotted a sweet Performer bass on Ebay -

RARE 1986 Fender PERFORMER BASS made in Japan LIGHT GREEN METALLIC!!!

At 1,500 bucks I guess they're not cheap anymore.........

Bill S._______

nice find!
no, they aren't cheap anymore, jumped on the one I got
because it was $1,100.
the bass is a real hard find from what I know.

The headstock and the body are terrible, but it sounds good!

it is a weird guitar but the reason I bought it was the value.
the price on them keeps going up and they are hard to find.
I don't invest money in stocks, I buy weird guitars Smile
