I was in Vegas this weekend for a convention and stopped by Ed Roman's to try out the "REAL" Mosrites. I tried a "Mosrite of Classics" model, which is apparently made by Fillmore:

I really wanted to like this guitar, but I was underwhelmed, especially given the pricetag. Maybe by design, or because of a mediocre setup, it didn't sound very Mosrite-y to me. It sounded almost Fender-like; clean single coil tone, but not hot. Maybe if the pickups were closer to the strings? Maybe if the strings were heavier gauge? Maybe if the vibrato arm weren't loose? I'd say this would be a good guitar for half the price and a great guitar at a third the price, but at nearly $2000, it should be sensational.
Over and out.

I saw your name at the end of the credits for Big Momma's House 2. I forget what song was used.

Dare I ask why you were watching BMH2? They used "The Perfect Wave" by the Mel-tones. It's playing in the beach scene REALLY quietly in the background.

I didn't watch Big Momma's House 2. I just caught the music credits. It was on HBOHD and I was waiting for the program I wanted to watch.
I've heard plenty of your music on MTV though. Lots of Varatones as well.

I have never played a Fillmore Mosrite but I'm sure you wouldn't have been that disappointed with an Excellent from the other Japanese manufacturer (Mosrite of Japan) at almost half the price.
The Fillmores sure look shiny though

Hello all, I'm new to this site so forgive me if this post is missplaced. I'm interested in buying a new Mosrite, so I thought I'd start my search here. I noticed several of the postings mentioned that one could get an "Excellnt" Mosrite from Zamm Inc, as opposed to the "Mosrite of Classics" available in Las Vegas. Aside from the almost double the price difference in Vegas, I've heard nothing but bad things about that operation. Problem is I can't get anywhere with the Zamm website, and I read that the Excellent Mosrite aren't being made anymore......does anyone have any info on these Excellent Mosrites, or how (and who) I can speak with at Zamm?
Thanks!

Phantom1, just go to www.zamminc.com and you should find contact stuff there. If not, just go onto the forums and find out there!

i wouldn't ever even consider roman. but that argument has been done to death.

Mel - I looked at those at Ed Romans too - the even look cheap, don't they? The tremolo looked really poor - I had an Excellent for a while - awesome construction for sure -
Plus, I walked around for an hour, and nobody asked if I was doing okay - I don't look homeless.... I'll never go back.

I don't live too far from Vegas but would never give Roman a dime's worth of business. Even if only a fraction of his rep is accurate, he'd still be a sleazebag.

All..
Zamminc is run by a kid in his 20s named Kevin Mazz. (like the play on letters with Zamm and Mazz??). He deals square but has the annoying habit of not answering emails in a timely manner, if at all. Preoccupied, I guess. And forget a phone call==> message machine (maybe) and then oblivion (as in no return call)
I've stated it before.. but to repeat.. stay away from Ed Roman unless you like non-negotiable bust-out-retail prices - with abuse thrown in free.
Ed Roman was and may still be filthy rich. So if he never sells a guitar, he could care less. He deals from that perspective. The only leg you have with him is if you have something in trade that he wants. Got an excess 59 Les Paul floating around??
I am rather certain that Mosrites of Classics is Ed Romans moniker. At one time, he was making these guitars in his shop. Figure on the kind of people Ed can hire and retain with his temperment. That's who is building your M of C axe. Certainly gives me pause.. how about you?
And the axe is overpriced to boot.
Keep your eyes on EBAY. Zamminc puts an EXCELLENT model out there every so often. Me? I'm glad I have significant original Mosrite stash.
