I too said "musician who no longer performs." It's probably been nine or ten years since Dirk Doom last took to the stage. We've been talking about doing some new tunes, but even then it's not too likely that we'd play live, living ~500km apart.

Anyone know any Pennsylvania..surf bands? lol

Sorry, off-topic a bit, but I don't know of any off hand--unless
you consider my project (The Bookhouse Boys), which is
strictly a studio project. I'm getting ready to send a demo
out. (Any suggestions to what labels I should send it? It's
mostly surf and surf/electronic/rockabilly hybrid--all instrumental.)

Later!

Vince

Is this something you can share with the rest of us, Amazing Larry?!?

Hey EC surf.
Look into Nesma
that should help you find some surf in your area,
plus what Skeeter wrote

If walls could talk... they'd tell you how much I suck.

used to gig twice a week and busk , had a breakdown of sorts..nothing for a couple of years.then into home studio and internet recording projects(sometimes the walls have ears!), and now looking at forming a new band this year..100% surf 100% recovery!! much inspiration here @ 101.

I've been jamming with friends for a number of years on weekends, but now I mostly jam with my kids. Teaching my oldest guitar, my middle drums and my youngest grabs a shaker or strumstick. We have a little studio set up in our basement. The kids got together with a couple of friends, formed a band and played a couple of talent shows at their school. I helped them learn the songs and work out the parts. It's pretty cool to see them making progress and putting the pieces together. Most fun I've had playing in years . So I voted performs for friends and relatives.

I have been in bands and have written songs and played guitar for several years. It is now that my wife and I really enjoy listening to surf music that I am contemplating making a paradigm shift to become a bonified surf guitarist. Although my love for surf music is undeniable, I am uncertain if I really should or could dedicate myself totally to surf or not. So, far I am learning a few surf songs....

On Average...3-4 gigs per month? I Know The pyronauts are busy in the summer months.

Sleeping i voted musician who no longer performs out or something to that effect. quit the band thing about 10 years ago. wasn't cutting it for me, tired of "turn down" and "play some boogie!" memphis is not a surf town or a jazz town or --well--whatever. would love to emulate my hero and front a kick ass surf band. not willing to move to the coast (gulf) to spread the word of surf to the local masses. after camille in the late 60's and katrina recently i just don't want to lose another strat to the sea!! is there still a surf scene in the carolinas? how 'bout socal? iceland? OOOOO -- surfmom says there are cookies in the kitchen--got to go!!!!! peace

Until this band started, I'd have been a "jams with mates averaging about 1 gig every 4 years" kind of guy. Now I'm giging once a twice a month. Might even become a musician soon..

I'm not a musician, I just play one on stage.

You should have jumped up on what little bit of stage was left at our Zombie Lounge show Very Happy Thanks for coming and staying. I know it was a late night.

Back to Topic. We try to keep a minimum of two shows per month. Right now our popularity is on the upswing to the point to where I have to turn down invites to play. Only becuase we need to write new material.
