The Raybeats: "Jack the Ripper" from c. 1983....classic!

on the YouTube here

ps: most of the video footage is from an old documentary about Red China Atom Bomb tests mixed in with the classic "A is for ATOM": a US AEC public service announcement about the wonders of atomic energy! Also some old-time capatalist propaganda video footage...A very prescient video mix considering current developments in North Korea....

Hey Dave,
is the song live or studio?and which LP is it on?

I love the video footage! So cool!

Science friction burns my fingers.

Jeff...it's a studio album...but that track sure does sound "live" with all that screechy distortion, doesn't it?

the LP is 1983 "It's Only a Movie" on the Shanachie label (Shanachie 82003):

The album had : Banzai Pipeline, Buddy Lonesome, Doin' The Dishes, Instant Twist, It's Only A Movie, Jack The Ripper, Jelly Bread, Soul Beat / Intoxica, The Big Country, The Sad Little Caper

I think I have that LP have to look.
I know I have the Calhoun surf 45
and the lp it came from.

another side note: during the 1980s, many of the subtle references you see in this video to "cowboy mentality" refered back to Ronald Reagan's foreign policy and his style of international diplomacy... remember?

i still think it's funny when they run the wagon off of the cliff...

What do you think about the sustained and pulsing feedback throughout this tune?

I'm huge fan of feedback...such a cool tune
