Noel, inspiration is what you make of it. How about the following development of your concept, expressed as a surf opera in 2:42?
After a horrific mass wipeout at Dead Man's Cove, Dr Mickey Von Finkenstein collects the body parts of the surfers that wash up on shore and rebuilds them into a monster surfer. After coming to terms with his existence, the monster enters and wins the surfing championships.
Musically, it might start with some upbeat, cliche surfy stuff, then some tank kicking and glissandos and noise for the wipeout, then some calm mystery in the aftermath of the storm. After sci-fi noises for re-animating the monster, something sad and introspective. The tune eventually reprises the initial surfy riff as the monster wins the championship.
Geez, now I feel like writing it. I would agree that it doesn't exactly deal with a serious subject.
Best of luck with the surgery.

Hey RK. Great! DO IT!!! Would you throw in a wildly Dick Dale-style screaming chord glissando to express the monster's reaction to waking up? Can't wait to hear it.

Thanks for the endorsement. I'll see what I can do, I hope I have something before you are playing guitar again! I like your idea, too: the monster's theme will be played on the guitar as per your suggestion, and the doctor's theme will be keys/synth sounds, each coming in and out as he takes center stage.

This is it. I'll be in the hospital tomorrow morning at 7:45. Unless my cold worsens overnight I'll be offline for a few days (at least).

Hi Noel!
I had shoulder surgery a coupla decades ago. It WAS suckily painful, as I 've seen you've warned yourself about, but it passed and I am so glad I did it! Best of luck to ya!!! Rock onwards and upwards!!

Hope it all goes well, Noel, wishing you the best.
A portable player with some surfy tunes to dive into for the immediate recovery would be invaluable.

Best of luck with surgery Noel...I have had 5 surgeries in my extremities over the years and all were smooth sailing - I have always been into sports and continue to be active, thanks to surgery. I am sure you will do great. I torn the labrum in my shoulder a couple of years ago...it has gotten much better on its own, but I will be following you into surgery at some point.
Keep us posted....

folks, this is Noels' wife, Barbara Bonner, letting you know that he's doing ok - finally getting back to a little bit of normal. His recovery might be awhile, but he will likely be back online in a few more days, typing only with his right hand. Finally able to keep food down, and to move around slightly. Even his humor is starting to come back. More later and thanks for all the prayers and well wishes.
If you're on facebook go to this post and add your best wishes, I'm sure he'd love to hear from you.

Hi all! typing one-handed as i'm giving up caps for a while. heartfelt thanks to everyone for all the comments. i'll say this, i had the most incredibly breath-takingly gorgeous anesthesiology consultant. THE most beautiful woman i've EVER seen. trust me. tall. dark. luscious. the caps were worth it. she was not part of the surgical crew. i told my wife about her. i had to tell someone.
i'm feeling human today. off the heavy pain pills. it mostly feels like a bad day before.
the surgeon was ecstatic. at some point after the mri, the bicep tore badly. if i'd put this off to after the instro summt, it could have torn itself totally free any time and anywhere. bad business. so i had much more extensive surgery than planned but it's all fixed.
if you are putting this off, have it done. asap. you'll be much happier with a sports-medicine orthopaedic surgeon than traditional. my wife has a friend who had his a month sooner, traditional-style with muscles sewed to bones. he's stll in an external immobilization brace and is very uncomfortable. i've got muscles screwed to bone with dissolving scews. much less pain than him and i'm on my feet faster. i'm supposed to be in therapy later this week too.
all i can think of is where i'd have been and what i'd have been doing when my bicep tore loose. i should be getting my keyboard next week and i'm raring to go. who'se up for peter gunn on organ?

Glad to hear you're on the mend. Peter Gunn? Sure, why not? Now I've got that tune stuck in my head.
BTW - Whenever we have a gig malfunction, i.e. broken guitar string, amp fizzle, etc., our bass player breaks into Peter Gunn and the rest of the band jams to it while the repair takes place.

Thank you very much. That's funny. I'm thinking the sax parts would sound great on keyboard through some distortion, and what Jeff Beck does when he plays it.
