More sponsor news: I'm still on the prowl for a guitar donor this year, but I did manage to corral a pretty sweet raffle prize: A Year's Supply of Chips (your choice) from Utz Snacks! I kid you not--They've got a thing called the Chip of the Month Club; You pick the three flavors of snacks you want each month, and they ship out three big ol' bags to your address, free of charge. The raffle winner gets a twelve-month deal. Okay, so it ain't a Mosrite, but still--pretty cool, no? --Crispy |

I doubt they would do it, but it wouldn't hurt to call Bob Shade at Hallmark Guitars. They have new models coming out that they might want to promote. —THE KBK ... This is the last known signal. We offer Sanctuary. www.thekbk.com |

Already talked to Bob--he shot me down flat, and quick, too--I got a "no way" in under 20 minutes! I haven't given up hope; I sent out requests to all the big companies (Fender, Gretsch, Epiphone), and they tend to take a while before replying to requests like this, as they get so durned many. I've also got a few possibilities with some smaller companies that are keeping their eyes peeled for any returns or factory seconds they could offer me, but this could be a real long shot. If all else fails, I'm going to get local music store guy Jim Dennis to guilt one of the many uber-rich blues lawyers in the area into donating us one of their many axes. Don't wanna do it, but if the times call for such things... --Crispy |

Crispy,..have you thought about purchasing a guitar and raffling it off? — |

Sure, but that involves this thing called money, which I don't have these days. I also don't like the idea of the cost of a guitar cutting into the raffles' profits. I like my bands to get paid as much as I can possibly provide, and taking 500-1000 bucks off the top just doesn't do it for me--or anyone else, for that matter. I made a pledge to myself after taking a big financial bath after the 2010 Summit (mostly from printing showbills, an expense I now have sponsors covering) that from now on this festival must be at least a break-even event for me. It takes more work, and arguably adds more anxiety here and there, but in the long run, it's the only way to go. --Crispy |

I am absolutely in love with that phrase 'breaking even'. While there is little money to usually be made in music, be it in a band or as a promotor, the idea of breaking even should never be out of ones reach. —THE KBK ... This is the last known signal. We offer Sanctuary. www.thekbk.com |

I understand completely Crispy. Didn't know what kind of capital you had for the event and didn't want to pry. Hopefully with continued success and exsposure you'll eventually have sponsors competing against each other for participation. — |

i think the chip of the month prize is a great idea. i have enough guitars and don't need more. i'd love to win the utz goodies. you could do a beer of the month, bbq sause of the month, hot sauce of the month prize, etc. probably a lot easier to get a donation. — |
