Guitar, Amp, Effects, Gauge Strings. Time to spill your guts.

Mine:

American Tele, with 12 gauges. Yes, I know the Tele is frowned upon, but she does whale. Fender Hot Rod Delux. Just ordered a Surf Tremolo, we'll see how that goes.

Fender Jag - Jap. reissue
Blackface Fender Reverb Tank
Arion Stage Tuner
Danelctro Reel Echo
Clean signal goes into a Blackface Fender Showman with a custom built-open back cabinet with EV Force 15 speaker.
Echo signal goes into an Ampeg Gemini II

Rotosound Flatwounds .12 - .52 (although I think I may experiment with a heavier guage on the low end if I can find 'em)

Jim Dunlop Nylon .88 pick

Spetraflex cable

Trace recently bought a Gretch I use for back up on stage w/ flat wounds.

I Also have:
'86 Rickenbacker 360 - D'Adario roundwond .10's with a Jim Dunlop .60 nylon pick - This guitar is my love.
Encore 12 string - Hollow Body - Fiddle shaped -like McCartney's bass
A no-name Franken-tele custom
broken Mexi-strat
Takamine acoustic

is that enough info?

Spanky

AV Jag Refinished in Burgundy Mist
CIJ Jag with block inlays and matching headstock in CAR
'64 Showman

Cheap cloth cables

Also,
Gretsch 6118T-120
Yamaha Martin D-35 Copy

that which i use the most :

AVRI jaguar in white
fender deluxe reverb
RI fender reverb unit
bullet cable
dunlop .88 picks

that which i also own:

american standard strat sunburst
PRS custom 22 10 top in teal
fender jazz bass in transparent orange/black pick guard
fender 'ventures' jazzmaster made in japan-1996 (one of 500)
RI twin reverb
small fender bass amp
ibanez tube screamer
boss delay

that which i should own:

stock in the fender corporation

all of this could be grounds for divorce if i was a guy
Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Let's see...

Instruments:

CIJ Jazzmaster 66 RI (blocks, binding, & matching headstock, vint. white)
Am Deluxe Strat (rosewood neck, Candy Tangerine finish - not a surfy color per se, but I think she's purty)
Artisan Lap Steel (I'll find a use for it someday)
HiWatt Echo-Theremin

Effects:

Fender 63 RI Reverb Unit (switched tubes for NOS)
Boss pedal Tuner (not an effect, granted, but it's w/ my pedals)
Boss TR-2 Tremolo
H2O Chorus/Echo (never use the chorus, but the echo comes in handy)
Marshall Guv'Nor
Ibanex TubeScreamer

Amps:

Reverend Hellhound 40/60 head, into an Avatar 2x12 cab with Eminence M12's
Ampeg Reverberock R12R

Wants:

Danelectro doubleneck (bari/6-string)
Hallmark Sweptwing (I was THIS close....but I bought the Strat instead)
My Gretsch Streamliner back , or a 6120 to replace it. Laughing

Fender AV Jazzmaster with D'adarrio 15-65 flat wounds. Tuned D-G-C-F-A-D. Oh - sunburst with tortoise shell pick-guard.
Dunlop Tortex 1.0-Blue
Boss overdrive (od-1? the yellow one)
Danelectro Reel Echo
Fender RI reverb unit with NOS rca tubes, and cap mod.
Boss EQ (set flat with just a volume boost to compensate for what the reverb unit takes).
MXR Micro Amp for solo boost

69 Twin Reverb in a crappy head cabinet. Blackfaced. NOS Philips 7881A power tubes. Telefunken, Mullard and RCA pre-amp tubes (as far as I remember). Reverb doesn't work.
Speaker output goes to top half of a Pine+MDF 2X15 cab similar in size to Dual Showman cab (but heavier). The cab is loaded with JBL d-130 speakers. Unfortunately, I needed to have them reconed back in Israel, so they have the E-130 kits in them. That might change in the future.
Ext-Speaker output goes to left half of Marshall 4x12 1960bv straight cabinet loaded with Celestion Vintage 30 speakers. That cabinet is on the other side of the stage under the other guitarist's amp. His guitar comes through the bottom part of the 2X15 cabinet, and the right side of the Marshall cab.
All the speakers in those cabs have Weber VST Beam Blocker treble diffusers (all of them the 4" dome, I would have switched to the 5" dome on the JBL speakers).

I also have a Weber VST MASS, but found that it's very useful for recoding, but not for live work.

I also have a 2X15 cab loaded with 2 JBL E-140 bass speakers. It's even bigger than the guitar cab. And heavier. And doesn't have wheels.

My back-up guitars:
Jap Charvel 475sp. 13-56 round wound. Black.
Danelectro Hodad with tremolo (bigsby copy). 12-54 round wound. Burgundy or whatever the color is called.

I would have loved to:
Have a blond dual showman with red oxblood grill cloth (brownface, not a blackface).
Have 2 blond dual showman cabs (red oxblood grill cloth).
Have a blond + red oxblood grill cloth reverb unit.
Get a FuzzBrite
Have a quality Jag barritone with a Jag/JM tremolo.
Have an American Jag with a JM scale neck.

wow, I am surprised a few responces on the dunlop light gauge picks. I love dulops, but preffer the heavy gauges 1.14 and up. Is this a personal pref or do surf players like to use thinner picks?

I only listed my surf related gear, the rest would be irrelevant Smile

It used to be that surf players would only use heavy picks but I think there is a change in that mindset. The majority use heavier picks I believe but some people are changing. I used to use .46 Dunlop Nylons. I would still use them but I cut my thumb one gig because they are too thin. Blood all over the Jag.

two setups : one for guitar, one for bass.

guitar:
1968 Silverface Bassman 50 (GE NOS 6L6 power tubes and GE NOS tone tubes, new clean wiring, caps etc.)
1993 re-issue Fender Reverb Unit (with NOS Mullard 12AT7 tubes and GE NOS 6K6 tube)
homemade 2x12 Celestion-loaded cabinet
surf trem pedal

Retrotone Surfmaster Strat-style with Armstrong lipstick-tube pickups
Danelectro Hodad with imitation-Bigsby tremolo
"vintage"-style "Mexi-nese" Fender Telecaster: Mexico 1951 Esquire RI neck, Japan 1952 RI body, Fender Custom Shop Nocaster pickups, 4-way series/parrallel selector and wiring, Bigsby B-5 tremolo, Fender Mustang bridge

Pyramid "Gold" flatwounds (.013-.054)
Rotosound "Purple" or "Grey" roundwound

Bass:

gallien-krueger 800 RB bi-amp: 100 watt treble/300 watt bass
1968 Fender 4x12 Eminence-loaded cab for bass, 2x12 homemade Celestion-loaded cab for treble.

Fender Japan RI 1951 Precision Bass (Tele-style Precision Bass)
Danelectro RI six-string bass
Fernandez Tele-style fretless bass

Rotosound Nickel roundwound (heavy .045-.105)
Danelectro six-string bass "Vintage tone" strings

I use the Moshay "blue lettering" (heavy) picks on bass and guitar

Fender vintage-style leather guitar straps

...i forgot the Mandobird VIII electric-mandolin...

... I modified it...now has 2 pickups...one an Arstrong lipstick tube, and the other the stock Epiphone single coil...

sounds wicked cool through the reverberator!

Hey Jake, I am glad you at least captured the moment Razz

For surf I use:

Guitars: Sunburst Eric Johnson Signature Strat,
Reverend Spy (3 lipstick single coils) with Bigsby.

Amps: '63 Blackface Fender Deluxe,
Reverend Hellhound 40/60 Head through Reverend
4x10 Cabinet,
Fender 75 w/ 15" speaker.

Misc: Fender Reissue '63 Reverb Tank,
Reverend Drivetrain II,
Keeley Compressor,
Keeley modified Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer,
1970's MXR Flanger.

I'm obviously not a real hard core trad-surf guy.

Alright, you asked for it:

Guitar: Early (mid-'70s) BC Rich Seagull Jr.
I bought it in 1981 and it's the only electric guitar I've ever owned.

Effects: I have this bitchin' footswith that turns my amp's internal reverb and vibrato on/off !

Amp: Early Musicman "sixty-five" 112 combo amp with an 80W Celestion.

Strings/picks: DR EH-11s and Moshay nylon picks.

Amp: Early Musicman "sixty-five" 112 combo amp with an 80W Celestion.

That musicman amp sounds cool...I bet it's a screamer!

Mine's just as simple:

Fender Cyclone 2

Vox Wah pedal

80s Peavey Heritage (the bassiest amp I ever played)

RotoReds 11s (thanks to this forum. And I will never use another brand of string ever again).

I've got 2 of everything. Lucky for me I got into this surf thing before the gear became popular.

'63 Olympic White Jaguar
'64 Lake Placid Blue Jaguar
'63 Blonde Showman w/ 1x15 cab
'64 Blackface Showman w/ 2x12 cab
