I have never had the chance to plug into a Laney valve amp although a few years ago i'd regularly see used LC-30's going for £100. 30watt RMS combo and plenty of control knobs. I'm curious, are Laney uncommon in the states, make the wrong noises for surf or perhaps a little unreliable to be taken seriously. cheers.

Hi,
if you are looking for a decent and affordable tube amp I must recommend Laney Cub 12R (that I happends to own myself..). Very good clean sound, and of course a gain knob that gives you the overdrive only a tube driven unit can deliver. It also have separate send/return loop for your reverb pedal.

Maybe somebody else here have experiences of this unit?

Crumble,
Laneys aren't uncommon in the states at all. For those looking for insanely loud, heavy rock amps, they've been a go-to for quite some time. Just take a look at their endorsed "artists" and you'll get a sense of what their amps are really known for...Black Sabbath, Arch Enemy, HIM, My Ruin, Opeth, Gallows, Mastodon, High on Fire.

There is a small guitar store in Ventura that has lots of Laney amps, I used to live a block away.

I've never seen one, only on the net or in magazines.

Oh! That's why they don't a mention in the surf forum then!
I had the chance of buying one of these: LC-30 112 Class A valve amp. They are still quite a cheap amp used over here. Dosen't look too heavy rock and there's a youtube demo saying "good for clean tones".

I've seen a few on stage locally, but they were being used by mainly heavy Rock type bands..usually younger start-ups.

I use a Laney Cub 10 for practice, recording and small/low volume gigs, apart from my Twin it's the best amp I've ever owned. Our bass player also uses a Laney bass head. I love them, they're easily found here (in Australia). Can't speak more highly of the valve ones.

I know a lot of guys into the Shadows use Laney amps.
i think they had a few combo models that were modeled
after Voxes.
That's of interest, i suspect they are using the VC-30 which is very Vox AC-30 looking. There is a VC-30 Vs LC-50 shootout on youtube and they sound quite similar-ish. I'm thinking about exchanging my Fender Pro Jr which is almost in the same used price bracket as the LC-30.

Encouraging! I have a Twin, just need something smaller for those fun moments.
